Jersey Day in Support of the Humboldt Broncos
This has been an emotional week for many people not only in Canada, but indeed all of North America, as has been displayed in the sporting world, as we digest the news of the horrific bus crash in Saskatchewan resulting in so many young people's deaths. Although the impact on the families of those affected can be nothing short of unimaginable for the rest of us, it has nonetheless had an impact.
As a society, we have all been witness to a grassroots movement of support that is rare, and although given the circumstances, is uplifting and inspiring. Although we tend to see the worst in humanity reported disproportionately on the news these days, the repercussions of this terrible accident this past week is a great reminder that humanity is inherently good, kind, loving and supportive.
I felt compelled to share with you all, some of the support that has been displayed at Flynn this week, which was not mandated by anyone in authority. It was a grassroots decision that came from the hearts of many people across our organization, to participate in "Jersey Day" yesterday at many of our offices, and to leave hockey sticks at our front doors. There are also examples of support on our crews. Please see the pictures below, including the banner at the Alt Hotel project we were working on in Saskatoon. I am sure that there are many other examples just like this one on many of our other projects.
In addition to "Jersey Day," there is a "Go Fund Me" campaign set-up that I understand just passed the 10 million dollar mark in support! This is amazing, and many of the families affected by this tragedy will be in need of this financial support in the future. We have made a company decision to donate to this campaign, on behalf of ALL of the employees of Flynn.
This whole grassroots movement of support demonstrates the good in people across our entire society, and also demonstrates that compassion, love, and support is alive and well at Flynn. This is a great reminder to us all, of what is truly important in our lives. Many of us know young athletes that travel on the busses, and in fact, many of us have been these athletes riding on the busses! These experiences shape our lives at a young age and make us who we are. I am so proud that so many of us took the time yesterday to honour those affected by this tragedy.
Stay safe and take care,
