Jeff Marshall becomes DISA’s newest Senior Executive Service member
By U.S. Army Lt. Col. Ed Shank / DISA Office of Strategic Communication and Public Affairs?
Jeff Marshall knows the importance of good communications support. During Operations Desert Shield and Storm, Marshall served as an “88-Mike,” enlisted truck driver in the 美国军队 . While transporting soldiers and supplies through hostile territory, communication between vehicles, units and command elements is absolutely critical to the safety of personnel and success of each mission.?
Following his military service, Marshall chose a career in technology, hoping to one day be in a position to ensure future warfighters remain connected. On May 31, he reached a major milestone on that road.?
During the 2024 Defense Information Systems Agency Senior Leader Off-site in Philadelphia, Marshall became the agency’s newest Senior Executive Service member by swearing a constitutional oath in front of the very building where the U.S. Constitution was written.?
US Marines Sgt. Maj. Dan Krause, senior enlisted advisor for DISA and Joint Force Headquarters-Department of Defense Information Network and promotion ceremony official, said he expects the combination of Marshall’s military and industry experience to lead to future success.?
“During Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Marshall deployed and performed combat operations in support of the liberation of Kuwait. He understands the mission of a private first class on the Yugoslavian border. And now, the secretary of defense has signed a warrant to make him a Senior Executive Service member,” Krause said.?
In the role that comes with the promotion, Marshall will become acting director of DISA’s Hosting and Compute directorate now that former director, Sharon Woods, has taken over DISA’s Endpoint and Global Services directorate. During the ceremony, Woods explained why she thinks Marshall is the right person for the job.?
“As a combat support agency specializing in technology and in cyberspace, part of what we have to do to fight and win wars is to have people who understand the cutting edge of technology. And that is what Jeff brings to the table, this integration of understanding the mission of the military, but also understanding cutting-edge technology,” Woods said.?
Having sworn the oath in front of friends and family, Marshall reflected upon what the day meant to him on a personal level.?
“I feel like you have seen something with my knowledge, my skills and my experience that you can benefit from,” Marshall said. “At the same time, I absolutely know I can benefit from all of you. If you look to your left and to your right, you’ll see what the military calls battle buddies. I am now one of your battle buddies and I am committed to being here for each and every one of you.”?
