JCC Young Entrepreneur - Own Your Future II event is this weekend!

The JCC believes that even as entrepreneurship must be encouraged in our society, it is particularly important that the encouragement begin early. Consequently, in January last year we premiered Young Entrepreneur: Own Your Future, where over the course of a morning, 250 young people – from secondary and tertiary institutions, from St Thomas to Westmoreland, came together to listen to a world-renowned social entrepreneur and a team of young and visionary Jamaican businesspersons, engage in a motivational and inspirational event aimed at supporting young people who believe their calling may be to make their mark as entrepreneurs. The second staging will take place on Saturday, January 20, 2018 @ 9:00am at the Courtleigh Auditorium in New Kingston.

The January 2017 event attracted over 250 participants and we anticipate that the 2nd staging will have even more attendees. The main speaker for 2018 will be Dr. Tashni-Ann Dubroy who is not only an entrepreneur herself, but was also appointed as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the prestigious Howard University this year. Dr. Dubroy, who is of Jamaican parentage, was formerly the President of Shaw University, North Carolina and was awarded Female President of the Year by the Historically Black College & Universities Digest, including the 2017 CEO of the Year by the Triangle Business Journal and she is the first recipient of the 2016 Spirit of Excellence in Higher Education award by the Movement of Youth organization.

She will be supported at the event by a roster of young and well-known Jamaica entrepreneurs, #scottdunn #cortiabingham #randymclaren. #MC #terri-karellereid

The objective of this event is to empower, motivate and stimulate young Jamaican entrepreneurs and business students alike to understand the focussed strategies that other youthful and driven individuals have utilized to put them on the path to realizing their dreams. The event will seek to unlock their nascent entrepreneurial skills and provide them with living case studies so as to demonstrate that notwithstanding the many challenges, there also many opportunities. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and network.
