JBS, the world leader in protein-based products, is starting to manufacture compost-based fertilizers.
Little known in Europe, this Brazilian multinational exports thousands of tons of pigs, cattle and chickens around the world. The largest exporter announced on March 18 the opening of a fertilizer plant in Brazil.
With this site located in Guai?ará, a municipality in the state of Sao Paulo, Campo Forte will have the capacity to manufacture 150,000 tons of products per year, with an investment of more than 25 million euros. Considered an activity with "growth potential", sales will increase the share of national production. In fact, 87% of fertilizers consumed in Brazil are imported.
With this new activity, the agri-food giant is gaining a foothold in the agricultural inputs market and thus becomes the first Brazilian food producer to recycle waste generated by its own production.
"This inauguration reinforces JBS's sustainable objective and constitutes a new circular economy initiative of the Group, which will give the waste from its operations a proper destination, generating a value-added product, based on a highly technological and sustainable industrial process," said Susana Carvalho , executive director of JBS New Businesses.
The new plant will be in charge of producing a complete range of organic, organo-mineral and special fertilizers, from organic waste and mineral raw materials.
A new activity that will serve both companies and end consumers to whom it will offer a range of fertilizers that promote increased productivity, boost nutrients and reduce losses with minimal impact on the environment.
The company prioritizes sales of its products for soybeans, corn, coffee, sugarcane, fruits and vegetables, as well as pastures and forests.
MENART is proud to be part of this pioneering project in Brazil. JBS has chosen to work with a MENART SPM-73 compost turner. It’s one of the biggest self-propelled turners in the world, able to process 7,3 x 2,8 meter windrows.
