JB in the Wild E. 32

Welcome to episode 32

?I.???????????????? Introduction

Last week I braked from social media post hurricane (number 2).? An unplanned pause on the digital life.? It felt right.? There are still a lot of people in the South dealing with post hurricane wreckage.?

On that somber note, we are promoting the impact spending your vacation time and money to help restore many resilient, tourism dependent communities, from the Yucatan in Mexico to the Gulf Coast, up into the picturesque Smoky Mountains of North Carolina.

When is a good time to visit?? Each community will have their own timeline when they are ready and open for business.

In this episode, we will share small towns worth supporting.

Plus, travel ideas for your small business retreat.? All group travel ideas include wi-fi and meeting spaces for all or part of your stay.

…and travel trivia!

II.?????????????? Supporting small town tourism

Asheville, NC

The gateway to Great Smoky National Forest.? A small town with international acclaim.? Asheville is quite possibly the finest small town in America.? A college town, thriving artisan enclave and naturescapes right out of your vision board collage.?

Asheville is home to the iconic Vanderbilt estate, dozens of breweries and mom & pop shops found nowhere else.? An inspiring locale for creatives and nature lovers alike.

Sian Ka’an, Quintana Roo, Mexico

A lot of attention, rightly so focused on U.S. communities impacted by Helene, coastal Mexico also endured tropical storm damage.? Yucatan has multiple hot spot destinations, Holbox, Tulum and Cancun.

Go south, into the biosphere of Sian Ka’an, a UNESCO world heritage site.? Over 2,000 square miles of pristine coastal jungle.? Spot tapirs, jaguars and manatees.

Explore varied ecosystems in the reserve, wetlands, cenotes (natural blue hole springs) and coral reefs.? Local guides are eager for visitors to come back.?

Treasure Island, FL

West of Tampa Florida, find yourself, toes in the sand. ?Miles and miles of island paradise.? Small towns dot the barrier islands on the central Gulf Coast of the sunshine state.

Treasure Island was hit twice, Helene’s storm surge buried much of the town in sand.? Milton made landfall 40 miles south.? High winds caused more damage.

The weather in the frosty winters up north draws visitors every year.? Around here it will be perfect for beachgoers, deep sea fishing, kayaking, snorkeling, hiking and a variety of local festivals.

Perfect for active minded teams seeking a balance of sun, social activities and deep work, Treasure Island is an ideal breakaway for you and your team.

III.???????????? Small Business Retreat Ideas

Technology has changed the world of work dramatically the last 10 years.? Increasing the ability to bring on the right talents versus limitations of the local talent pool.? A savvy executive team is no longer bound by geographic constraints.

A flaw to the modern company structure, no longer can teams gather in the same space (virtual spaces aside).? Work-cation is the new way business groups gather for meaningful, deep work.

A few ideas to make the most of your group’s time together:

1] All work and no play is a drag.? Include a guest speaker to add value beyond the workplace.? For example, a wellness workshop (think:? nutritionist, yoga instructor, or tai chi master)

2] Explore where you are.? Make a planned half-day work session so your team can find their own activities.? Include in your agenda local events, festivals, or historic sights.

3] Arrange transportation for each attendee.? It is the small things that you will appreciate for.? Hire a private car service to the airport or train station.? It will save your staff from figuring out how to get there.? A plus, you now will have fewer excuses why someone may miss a flight or show up frazzled.
