South of the south.? Florida is often described as separate from the traditional American South.? It’s a region brimming with natural sights not found anywhere else in North America.

Florida is a natural playground.? Being from the far West, land of wind-blown beaches, jagged mountains and fertile valleys, the pancake flat former Spanish new world territory is a great place to slow travel.

In this episode, we will dive into slow adventures right here in the Sunshine State.? We will add some international spice to our travel ideas section.

Slow travels in Florida are what classic literature is made from.? Whodunnit capers to ecological explorations uncovering astounding unique environments found few places on the globe.

Solo travelers will find the Sunshine state an outdoor paradise.? Dozens of natural springs percolate to the surface all around the central plateau and the panhandle.?

Summer is thought to be the most inhospitable of seasons around these parts, not so fast.

Known as the “Venice of America”.? North of cosmopolitan Miami, Ft. Lauderdale has its own style.? Classic South Florida.? Waterways carve up the town.? Water taxis move locals and visitors through the vibrant coastal city, with a major international cruise port minutes from downtown.

?Gulf Coast:

Slower pace beach life.? It’s a salt life.? Once rusted and worn, is now a shabby chic beach rustic for the serious relaxation vibes, the Gulf Coast is laid back.? Along the coastal highway venture into Tate’s Hell state forest.? There’s a great story behind the park’s name.

?St. Augustine:

The first European stronghold in the modern United States, America’s first city.? St. Augustine is a history lovers’ getaway.? Visit the 450-year-old Castillo de San Marco.? The coastal outdoor adventures are plentiful, surfing Cocoa Beach, paddleboarding at night through bioluminescent waters on the Banana River, or make it a lazy day at St. Augustine Beach.
