Q: What is your #1 piece of advice for young alumni in finance/investing?
A: Not sure I can pick one piece of advice as my #1, so here are a few offerings: At the beginning of your career, prioritize learning above all else. Find and cultivate a group of mentors, lean on these people extensively. Be humble and stay humble. The words “I don’t know” and “I’m not sure” are to be used often. The most successful investors understand that there is a lot they don’t know. Set a goal of [X] years into your career when you will commit to an area of specialization.?
Q: As a senior leader, how do you allocate your time?
A: I’m not sure anyone has a one-size-fits-all recipe for this, as you need to be highly adaptable to different situations. Generally speaking, though, I believe in trying to allocate a majority of time to the top 20% of most impactful projects and decisions in our business, and then going really deep into the details of those topics. That has always been preferable to me versus being spread a mile wide and an inch deep.
Q: How did Stanford influence your career in finance/investing?
A: Stanford provided me with a network of peers and mentors, which was especially important at the beginning of my career when I did not know much about the industry.?

Q: When were you last at Stanford, and why?
A: I had a business meeting with a large tech company headquartered near Stanford’s campus. I was with a handful of colleagues, none of whom had ever been to Stanford campus before. We had about 2-3 hours after our meeting ended before we needed to go back to the airport. I took everyone to campus to show them around.?
Q: What is your favorite place on the Stanford campus?
A: The walk between the Quad and the Oval.?
Q: Are you hiring?
A: Always. If you are not constantly looking for the very best talent, you are by definition falling behind.
