Japanese "Sake" Festival!
Japanese "Sake" Festival is coming soon...
In early October, when the Japanese Sake Festival is held in Saijo, the streets are flooded with drunks and ambulances run around. (Oh my god...)
"Sake" is not the English word "Sake" (sometimes used in the idiom "for the sake of"), but rather the Japanese word meaning Japanese alcoholic drink made from rice.
Our town is Saijo (Higashi-hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture), one of the three major "Sake" breweries in Japan.
At the elementary school in this town, 6th graders (12 year olds) perform an "opera" themed on this Saijo "Sake" brewery every year.
The opera is a story about the brewers who devote themselves to the task of making "Sake". The opera illustrates them steaming rice, making "koji" (rice with "koji" mold) and adding it to the rice to make "Sake", and celebrating at a festival when the sake is ready.
The opera can be freely viewed by anyone on YouTube, shown below.
