Japan pledges to support Indonesia as automotive hub in Southeast Asia

When we talk about automotive industry in Indonesia, Japan always top of the mind. Japanese OEM always dominated domestik market in Indonesia for every single month, even from early beginning history of automotive in Indonesia. For passenger segment for example, The Big 5 : Toyota, Daihatsu, Honda, Mitsubishi and Suzuki always dominated market with more than 90% market share combined, every single month for many decades.

For export market, Toyota Group (Toyota, Daihatsu, Hino) together with Suzuki, Honda and Mitsubishi always dominated export contribution for every month in more than 80 countries destination in the world.

Not only in automaker level, in component, Japanese component manufacturer also dominated market. Big dealer network, strong partnership with local partner, invest not only in business but also in facility, local supplier, and local manpower becoming key how Japanese OEM dominated Indonesian market.

With this condition, great meeting between President of Republic Indonesia, Mr. Joko Widodo and Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Fumio Kishida play very important roles for automotive industry in Indonesia especially in Covid-19 pandemic that still becoming problem in the world.

Those meeting has discussed 6 important result, including commitment from Toyota and Mitsubishi to make Indonesia as the hub in Southeast Asia. This is very important to make Indonesia - the biggest automotive market in Southeast Asia - to becoming the biggest automotive production base in Southeast Asia in the future.
