JANUS
A new minuet [ for end of year 2023]
Janus the ancient representation [ demi-god] with two heads - the old year and the new year ahead.
I live in York [ UK] and used to exhibit commercial artwork within a medieval courtyard [ St. William's College] where you paid very little to set up a simple stall to sell your artwork [ mostly to visitors and tourists].
In the corner of the ancient courtyard are several wood carved figures.. representing various themes, and one in particular has a representation of the 'JANUS' - he has the two heads, and he sits rather stiffly at the corner of the medieval cobbled courtyard.
The Roman JANUS has two heads also [that's another story].
Well, on December 31st [just gone] towards the end of that evening I wrote my minuet [number 61] and it seemed fitting, being on the cusp of a new year, at the close of the previous one - to give it a name; so JANUS came to mind as a title. It being the last of the year - and looking forward to new year's ideas ahead.
The tune is on solo melodic line and playable on any melodic instrument.
It's only a minute or two long - so here's the link to the video of me playing it myself 31 December 2023.
Now I must go and write another minuet - but please do listen to the one in my video.
