January "Stretch" Goals?

I find myself pondering the idea of setting stretch goals in January.... is it a good idea or not?
I remember working with a particular consultant (in my early days of setting up this business) and his theory/superstition was that you needed to be "maxed out" (with client engagements) in January to have a good year in business. 19 years later - I definitely don't agree with him. I will expand more on that topic at a later date!
Back to "stretch goals" - We in TIO Consulting have very big 'stretch' goals for 2025; in line with meeting the evolving Exec Coaching and Team Coaching needs of the senior leaders and top teams that we work with.
We are constantly 'horizon scanning' so that we can support and partner with our clients in the demanding world of business today. The requirements of leaders in organisations have changed very substantially over the last five years. Senior HR professionals are telling us that their leaders need superb interpersonal skills to manage across the multiple generations and differing employee expectations in the workplace.
Agile leadership is key, along with a growth mindset across the organisation.
We will be challenging ourselves to be agile, 'stretched' and at our 'learning edge' within our business in 2025. An exciting year ahead for us & we look forward to partnering with leaders who share our ambition and growth mindset.
p.s. There's also a new leadership book in the pipeline; with some brilliant up-to-date thinking to be shared with you soon! You heard it here first! #happyJanuary #learningedge #agileleadership

1 个月Love the visual Amanda. ?? I think there is lots of good things about having a stretch goal or target. I prefer to focus on the actual outcome you want. It gets you focused early and I agree that taking on too much in January isn’t a great idea as it can overwhelm you if it’s too many goals, too soon. My lessons learnt on goals is to actually set them, make them SMART and be flexible on adapting them as things evolve. I also really understand what in the goal you can totally drive and where you need cross collaborative support as breaking that down is key. Be kind to yourself on the pressure of a tough goal and don’t be too hard if you have done all you can to get there as sometimes things don’t work out as you planned, but you will learn great things along the way. Top of the 2025 Plan is “self care” as this world can be exhausting! Love reading your posts and happy 2025
