Introducing Rally Access Workstation

SDVI is pleased to announce the availability of Rally Access Workstation, a fully managed edit-in-the-cloud solution for Adobe Premiere Pro users.

?

With Rally Access Workstation, Rally users can run an instance of Premiere Pro on a cloud-based workstation with all content (high-resolution and/or proxy) preloaded in the bin, and markers on the timeline for work order items that need attention.?

In this edition of our newsletter, you'll learn more about the efficiencies Rally Access Workstation can provide and how it works.?

Supply Chain Thinking?

Optimizing Media Operations: Integrating Edit Into the Supply Chain

by Geoff Stedman , Chief Marketing Officer

Every media operations department must deal with a wide range of inputs and outputs, as they receive content from multiple sources and must prepare that content for delivery to an ever-growing universe of destinations. As part of this process, the ops team inevitably has to complete tasks such as transcoding, audio leveling, technical QC, and more.

Luckily, many of the tasks required to move that content through the supply chain can be automated and executed on cloud-based infrastructure. However, when an edit to content is needed using a?traditional workstation-based?edit tool like Adobe Premiere Pro, those sessions needed to be performed with on-premises equipment. Now, a new model makes it possible for organizations to bring content, a Premiere Pro?edit session,?and its critical tasks into the cloud, enabling efficiency gains and improved optimization across the entire supply chain.

In our latest blog, we look at a fully integrated edit-in-the-cloud supply chain and explain how the new Rally Access Workstation provides anywhere, anytime access to hosted edit workstations and content in the cloud, as well as dynamic provisioning of infrastructure to enable agile, cost-effective scaling of edit capacity.

From Our Technical Solutions Team:?

Full Access to the Cloud: Rally Access Workstation

by Brian Pelletier , VP of Solutions

As both a technologist and a former editor, I’ve found the advances in the editing space over the years to be fascinating. Whether you started learning your craft on tape-based systems (as I did) or were lucky enough to come of age in the modern era of NLE systems, each generation allows new creative possibilities. Operating these systems on-prem requires not only the skill of the individual editor but also the support of many other teams and disciplines throughout the organization. Recently, moving edit functions to cloud infrastructure has started to change the landscape once again.

Cloud-based editing provides many proven business benefits: unlimited scalability, cost-effectiveness by reducing egress, and the ability to distribute editors without specialized local hardware, to name a few. These benefits, when combined with the power of composable Rally media supply chains, open up exciting new possibilities not only in the way editors interact with the technology but also in their experience once they are in an active edit session. When you can dynamically define source material, timeline layout, and expected outputs via the supply chain, editors and operators can focus on the task at hand rather than the setup of the environment. Teams can choose to work in native resolutions and CODECs without having to move large files and support local hardware, while also supporting cloud-based rendering outside of the edit environment. Work order-based task assignment allows team leaders to prioritize and distribute tasks quickly, while Rally scales infrastructure to meet the demands.

Since its introduction, Rally Access has helped technical teams and editors work smarter and faster by linking automated supply chain functions and the metadata they produce to the required evaluation and editing tasks. Rally Access Workstation builds upon this by allowing remote infrastructure to be instantiated quickly, efficiently, on demand, and at scale.

New in Rally

Using Decision Engine for Asset Status Indicators

Rally supply chain engineers can now use Decision Engine to change Asset Status indicators, including color and text. Previously, when trying to show different states of the same step in an Asset’s cycle (e.g., QC), users needed to delete and create fresh markers each time. Now, when staying with the same icon in the same group, they can change color and message. As a result, a supply chain checking for QC error can, at the beginning, drop a grey QC icon with a text of “QC scheduled,” then change it to blue and “QC running” while it is being processed by an AutoQC, and end either green with “QC passed” or red with “QC failed”.

With this update, Asset Status can be used more easily to show a live-updated, higher-level representation of any tasks (often parallel) and supply chains running on the Asset, with more detailed information made available in each supply chain visualization.

This is one of many recent updates made to the Rally platform. Read more in our latest Rally Updates blog.
