January Reflection

January Reflection

In spite of the many memes about how January has about a million days, if you’re anything like me, you'll feel that this year has started at a gallop and you’re wondering how we’re at the 31st of January already. The pace of our lives is so busy and the demands so relentless that if we’re not intentional, it becomes so easy to get sucked into the rush and loose sight of our priorities.

As a coach, one of the best strategies I have to stay focused and aware of how life is landing on me is a practice of daily, weekly and monthly reflection. A series of regular, mini personal performance appraisals if you will. You can do this with a coach or mentor or as a personal reflection exercise.

In a recent newsletter Brett  Shuttleworth wrote: "Journaling brings you into that state of mindfulness; past frustrations and future anxieties lose their edge in the present moment. It calls a wandering mind to attention, from passivity to actively engaging with your thoughts."

Below are the questions I'm using this month to bring me into a state of mindfulness about my life and to focus on identifying strategies for future success.

  • How has January 2020 treated you?
  • Are you feeling focused, intentional and clear on what you want to achieve?
  • How well have you managed to stay accountable to yourself and your priorities?
  • What was your greatest success this month?
  • What have you learnt and discovered about yourself?
  • What do you need to do to make February more successful?

If you’re feeling as though you don’t yet have your goals clearly articulated check out my LinkedIn article ‘Identifying Roles to Set Effective Goals’ https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/identifying-roles-set-effective-goals-claire-holden/ This article refers to Stephen Covey's approach to goal setting - beginning with identifying your roles. Its an approach that has added enormous clarity to me and has worked for many of my clients. It allows us to clarify what is most important to us before we work on inspiring goals.

If you’re still battling please reach out and we can schedule a 30 minute online clarifying chat.

Here's to a focused, fulfilling & successful February!
