The Associated Press highlighted a key case win by the Pennsylvania Department of State, represented by Hangley Aronchick’s election team, in a long-running dispute involving voting machine access and certification in Fulton County, Pennsylvania.

In a 6-1 ruling, an en banc panel of the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court affirmed the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s authority to issue directives protecting voting equipment security and held that Pennsylvania’s Election Code empowers the Department of State to prohibit counties from using voting machines that have been compromised by unauthorized third-party access. HASPS shareholder Matthew Hamermesh spoke with Law360 about his representation of the City of Chester in an ongoing litigation stemming from Chester’s bankruptcy in 2022.

In 2023, Matt and his team secured a ruling from a federal bankruptcy court that Chester was not required to remit gambling-tax revenue to Pennsylvania’s Delaware County as a result of the City's Chapter 9 proceedings. In a filing late last year, Delaware County appealed that decision to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

Matt, who leads the firm’s representation of Chester along with associate Jackson Teague, expressed confidence that the Third Circuit would uphold the bankruptcy court’s well-reasoned decision. Read the full article here.

Jason is a commercial litigator with a focus on, and extensive experience with, disputes among and between co-venturers, shareholders, partners, and other principals.?Jason has been actively involved with the business of the firm since he joined it ten years ago.?He chairs the firm’s Business Development and Marketing Committee and has co-chaired the Lateral Shareholder Hiring and Strategic Planning Committees.

Re-elected to two-year terms on the Board are Bonnie Hoffman, a litigator with a growing and diverse commercial practice that includes a focus on education law and insurance coverage; Ronald Schiller, who is the Chair of the firm and who also heads the firm’s Insurance Coverage Group; and David Pudlin, a tax and estate planning specialist who has served as the firm’s President and CEO since its founding.

Continuing to serve on the Board are incumbents Mark Aronchick, John Summers, Cheryl Young, and David Scolnic.
