Innovate to Zero:?Pd-m deliver an insightful webinar to Bionow members
Pd-m are pleased to share that they hosted an insightful webinar on "Making sustainability an opportunity to reduce carbon and cost" in partnership with Bionow.
Expertly arranged by Bionow's Dave Holmes, there was a thought-provoking discussion with great panelists like Michelle Sullivan, Sustainability Chair (ABHI), who spoke about how with NHS England net zero road map, it's high time companies focus on carbon reduction. Pd-m were also joined by Pennine Healthcare’s CEO, Graeme Cameron, who talked about a ground up approach to inculcate sustainability in a company's culture.

Artificial Intelligence and Organisational Learning in Innovation: Evidence from drug discovery
This is a research project funded by the University of Manchester and the Research and Development Management Association (RADMA). The aim of the research is to understand how AI-based technologies (e.g., machine learning, deep learning) might be changing how the organisation innovates as well as impacts on existing knowledge, experiences, skills, and innovation capabilities for new knowledge creation at individual and organisational levels.
We also want to explore managerial, ethical, and corporate governance issues related to the development and use of AI-based technologies. We are particularly interested to work with companies in?drug discovery.

Can magnesium reduce risks of diabetes complications?
Researchers have launched a multi-centre clinical trial to investigate a new treatment for preventing diabetes complications in people with type 1 diabetes.
The collaboration between the University of Sunderland, in partnership with St Andrews University and the University of Leeds, pulls together world-leading expertise from across the UK to uncover key biological mechanisms underpinning the origins of blood vessel disease and to test new innovative treatments to halt their progression.
The study has received £400K from national charity Diabetes UK and will start to recruit research participants this year.
NETPark set to become Investment Zone ‘Growth Site’
The North East Technology Park (NETPark) at Sedgefield, owned and run by Durham County Council, is to become a Growth Site through the creation of a new Investment Zone for the region.
The Investment Zone, which will include two Growth Sites and two Tax Sites, is aligned to the £4.2bn North East devolution deal, with Durham County Council and the region’s other local authorities overseeing the development of the plans.
£30m study paves the way for new treatments for people with cirrhosis
The ADVANCE (Accelerating Discovery: Actionable NASH Cirrhosis Endpoints) study will be?the most detailed observational study of its kind enrolling the largest number of patients and providing a detailed analysis of liver health.
The study, involving Newcastle University, University of Edinburgh and leading research-driven global biopharmaceutical company, Boehringer Ingelheim, aims to work out why, even at the most advanced stages of liver disease, there is substantial variation in how the disease progresses with some people remaining well for many years whilst others rapidly experience liver failure or develop liver cancer.
NETPark proves ideal base for thriving spin out
Magnitude Biosciences, a?biotech company?which spun out from Durham University and moved to NETPark in 2020, uses tiny nematode worms known as Caenorhabditis elegans – or C. elegans – to carry out pre-clinical drug development and academic research for clients in a range of sectors, including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, agriculture, and health & nutrition.?
