The flatbeds are loaded and on their way to almonds now in the U.S. We hope the weather cooperates for a productive almond bloom for 2021. We are delighted to be working with U.S beekeepers as they prepare for the pollination season.
From as little as $3 per hive per month, we can help you identify which colonies need your attention, ensuring that healthy colonies remain undisturbed and focused on pollination.
For a large beekeeping operation, sorting and identifying weaker hives takes considerable time and effort. ApisProtect’s technology can enable beekeepers to assess the strength of every hive remotely, prior to travel.
With every hive labelled and a printed report in hand, this sorting process can be cut down to a fraction of the time. By streamlining the sorting process, the associated labor costs are significantly reduced and enables the beekeeper to transport only strong hives which have a greater chance of surviving the journey. ApisProtect can help you reduce transportation costs during pollination by up to 25%, by minimizing the number of weak hives that are inadvertently transported.
Recent research in the U.S. on the impact of trucking bees shows the importance of transporting strong colonies for pollination. This research shows that weak hives have lower survival rates during trucking and are more likely to fail after transportation, because of low temperatures during transportation on brood survival.
Full details of the research were published in Environmental Entomology with one of the conclusions being that
“Colony size prior to shipping significantly contributed to loss of population immediately after shipping which contributed to colony failure with smaller colonies more likely to fail and fail faster."

It has been a great start to the new year for the team as we were highlighted as one of the 60 European startups to watch in 2021 | Sifted. A lovely start to the year despite all the challenges with another lockdown here in Ireland.
Kind regards,
The ApisProtect Team
