January 2025 Sales Outlook: Strongest Growth in Electromechanical/Connector Products, New Opportunities for Manufacturers

As the ECST survey results for December 2024 are revealed, the sales outlook for January 2025 shows promising growth, especially in the demand for electromechanical/connector products. For EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services) and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) electronics manufacturers, the January outlook presents fresh opportunities, particularly in passive components and a recovering end-market.

Sales Outlook Recovery: Positive Growth in January

Compared to the pessimistic outlook in November, the sentiment in December has improved. The survey indicates a sales index of 98.4 for December, a slight recovery from November’s low, and in line with the previous months. The most encouraging sign comes from the January 2025 outlook, which is expected to jump 16.8 points to a total of 115.2, reflecting a strong rebound in the market. This increase aligns with historical trends from December to January, which usually sees significant growth after a typically slow December.

Electromechanical/Connector Products Leading the Growth

For manufacturers, the strongest sales outlook for January comes from electromechanical/connector products, which are expected to score 125.7, a significant increase of 27.9 points from December. This strong growth reflects the continuous demand for efficient connection technologies, automation applications, and industrial IoT. As electronic devices and systems become more complex, the need for precise connections and high reliability will drive greater demand for these products in 2025.

Steady Growth in Passive Components

Among all product categories, passive components continue to show strong performance, with a December score of 101.0 and an expected January increase to 109.6. For EMS/OEM manufacturers, this means continued demand for high-quality resistors, capacitors, and inductors, particularly in industries such as automotive, communications, and industrial applications. The growth in 5G, industrial automation, and smart devices will keep the demand for passive components strong.

Moderate Recovery in Semiconductor Products

While semiconductor products experienced a significant decline in December 2024, the outlook for January 2025 is more optimistic, with an expected score of 110.3, recovering to November’s level. As the demand for high-performance semiconductors continues to grow across various sectors, the semiconductor industry remains a key driver for the next few months, despite some fluctuations in the market.

End-Market Confidence Rebounds

Even more encouraging is the significant rebound in end-market confidence. The index for December was 101.6, well above the forecasted 87.8, and the January outlook is even more promising, with an overall prediction of 125.0. Specific sectors such as aerospace, military/space, and industrial electronics lead the way, with forecasted scores of 145.8 and 135.6 for January, reflecting strong, continued demand in these areas.

However, the consumer electronics market shows a slightly weaker outlook, with a forecasted score of 97.8. Despite this, the upcoming CES (Consumer Electronics Show) provides a positive early outlook, and new innovations could stimulate a recovery in consumer electronics demand.

Stable Supply Chain and Delivery Times

The survey also highlights the stability of delivery times, which provides a solid foundation for the 2025 outlook. For EMS/OEM manufacturers, stable supply chains and delivery time expectations mean that manufacturers can plan production more effectively, reduce uncertainty, and ensure timely deliveries. This will further enhance market confidence and drive growth in 2025.

Seizing Market Opportunities in January 2025

For EMS/OEM electronics manufacturers, the strong sales outlook for January represents a valuable opportunity. The demand for electromechanical/connector products and passive components, along with the recovery in end-market confidence, presents new growth avenues. While the consumer electronics market faces some challenges, the growth in other sectors offers ample opportunities for innovation and development.

Manufacturers should seize these opportunities by optimizing production processes, improving supply chain management, and leveraging smart manufacturing technologies to enhance production flexibility and efficiency. Strengthening collaboration with suppliers to ensure the stable supply of critical components will be key to meeting increasing demand.
