The Impact of the Trump Administration on the Digital Assets Industry in Africa
The new Trump administration has been raising conversations in the digital assets space with his pro-crypto stance. Speaking on this, Craig Stoehr, General Counsel at Yellow Card had this to say:
"President Trump has been responsible for bringing about a seismic change for crypto, already signing an Executive Order that, among other things, embraces open blockchain networks, prohibits the development of a CBDC, highlights the strategic importance of dollar-backed stablecoins, and authorizes evaluating the creation of a national digital assets reserve.
A pro-crypto stance in the U.S. could have a profound effect on Africa by accelerating the development of regulatory frameworks (e.g. witness the draft Virtual Assets Service Provider Bill proposed in Kenya earlier this month), increasing foreign direct investment and capital inflows, reducing remittance costs, and positively impacting currency stability.
As a company that has generated almost $5 billion in volumes, 99% of which are attributable to stablecoins, we are more excited than ever before about the prospects for the world's leading region for the adoption of stablecoins.”

Following his participation at the WEF, Chris was also featured in a Bloomberg article titled, “Trump s Crypto Embrace Seen Forcing Regulatory Changes in Africa” where he spoke about the impact of Trump s administration on the regulatory landscape in Africa.
The article was also picked up by Tech Central. Chris was also featured in a Nairametrics article titled African banks are now showing interest in crypto Chris Maurice.”

Great things are on the horizon for Yellow Card as Chris Maurice, our CEO, was in Davos to attend the World Economic Forum for the first time. He took the opportunity to network with key industry leaders and central bank representatives who are interested in the digital assets space in Africa.
Gillian Darko, our Chief of Staff and Director of Strategy, put together a groundbreaking event that brought together key industry heavyweights in the fintech industry in Accra, Ghana. They all came together to discuss the role stablecoins play in cross-border transactions, specifically how they impact businesses.
Industry leaders such as Martin Kwame Awagah, President of the Ghana Fintech and Payments Association; Ike Anison, Ghana Country Director for Onafriq; and Paapa Osei, Head of Regulation at MTN Ghana, were in attendance.
Details of the event were published on the front page of The Business and Financial Times Newspaper.
