Pharmaceutical development involves optimizing the solid form of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) to enhance drug performance. Knowing the structure of a specific solid form brings us closer to understanding and predicting its behavior. Traditional X-ray diffraction, while highly effective, requires crystals of a certain size, potentially a limiting factor with early stage drug candidates. Microelectron diffraction (MicroED) overcomes this limitation, enabling the study of crystals that are only nanometers in size, allowing for fast and accurate determination of structures of polymorphs, salts, or cocrystals, which can play a significant role in defining key properties of the drug.

Solitek attended the event ‘Integrating diversity and inclusion in corporate strategy: practical considerations for inclusive leadership’

Organized by SHEpharma, in collaboration with Club Women Empowerment - Esade Alumni and Junta Directiva Club Salud y Farma from Esade Alumni, the event ‘Integrating diversity and inclusion in corporate strategy: practical considerations for inclusive leadership’ took place a couple of weeks ago.

Our colleague and science communicator, Clara Pina Coronado had the opportunity to attend and was inspired by it. Amongst the ideas that were discussed, the achievement of better results as a direct consequence of the integration of diversity and inclusion in the corporate strategy highly resonated with her.

Whether this diversity comes from generational or cultural differences, high performance teams are formed when everybody’s input is taken into account and, by synergy, the growth of the team is greater than the sum of each individual’s growth.

A shocking fact highlighted during the event was the lingering salary gap between men and women of nearly 13%, which means that, from Nov 15th till the end of the year, women will be (symbolically) working for free! Shocking!

We often encounter that, despite what we may believe, many researchers have never come across solid state science, and they do not fully understand the need for optimization of the solid form of small molecule active pharmaceutical ingredients.
