Student Veterans Association Hits the (icy) Road
Military-connected students and staff from K-State Salina attended the Student Veterans Association (SVA) National Conference in Colorado Springs.
During their trip, they connected with a variety of SVA chapters from around the country and worked together on a service learning project benefitting The Mission Continues, an organization dedicated to connecting veterans with under-resourced communities.
Unfortunately, a large winter storm forced our students and staff to come home earlier than expected, but they are excited to build on the connections and ideas they came away with from the conference in the next semester and academic year.
For the Love of Business
In partnership with the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce, several of the Business faculty at K-State Salina are preparing to serve as instructors for Salina's Project Open, a Salina-based program focused on supporting entrepreneurial development and training.
The program allows those interested in starting their own local business to receive free training opportunities throughout the year from K-State Salina instructors such as "Basics of Marketing, Management, and Strategy", "Financial Basics and Tools", and "How to Pitch Your Business".
With over 80 years of business experience and 50 years of teaching experience combined, the business faculty at K-State Salina, including Sue Guzek, Dr. Fred Guzek, Kathy Brockway, and Vince Weber, are helping to develop the Salina community, one entrepreneur at a time!
Training in a New Reality
Dr. Michael Oetken, immersive system design assistant professor, traveled to Hawaii for the AHFE International Conference on Human Factors in Design, Engineering and Computing to share his research in strategic media. The conference is a premier global forum of leading researchers, practitioners and industry experts exploring human factors and systems design advancements.
During his trip, Dr. Oetken presented his paper on intelligent VR systems and their integral part in modern training environments, bridging a key gap in our understanding of human-technology interaction.
A New Frontier: CSDD Approved by KBOR
After a required secondary review of the proposed curriculum by KBOR, the Cyber Systems Design and Dynamics (CSDD) program has been approved!
However, much work is being done to prepare for the first class of students. A focus group of faculty, staff, and students from across campus has been created to identify ways to integrate the program into the campus culture.
This integration is critical to ensure success and retention in the program and includes topics such as potential student clubs, projects, industry partners, advisory board members, cross-disciplinary research, and career pipelines.?
