Final Reminder: New CMS Lab Director Requirements Now in Effect
As of Dec. 28, 2024, new qualifications for laboratory directors, mandated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), are officially in effect. These updated requirements apply to moderate- and high-complexity labs and include stricter criteria for education, experience, and certification.?

HIPAA Security Rule Update Proposed Following High-Profile Cyberattacks

2025 CPT Coding Update for Lab and Pathology
As of Jan. 1, 2025, the following revisions have been made to pathology and lab CPT codes:
?? 9 revisions
? 114 additions
? 14 deletions
According to analysis from our RCM Solutions Team, most of these changes impact PLA (Proprietary Laboratory Analysis) codes. For a full breakdown of codes removed due to low utilization, new codes for molecular testing and digital pathology, and more, check out our full analysis below.
Pathology Services See 2025 Pay Cut After Congress Declines to Intervene
A 2.5% Medicare cut for Pathology services took effect January 1 after Congress elected not to pass a measure that would have offset the reduction.?That said, CAP reports some lawmakers are open to passing the payment fix later this spring and retroactively applying it to January 1.
