1?? ANSO-CAS-TWAS PhDs scholarships are available in China

Students and scholars from developing countries in the South who wish to pursue a PhD in China may apply for an ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship. The programme offers sponsorship to up to 50 students and scholars from developing countries. Echoing the priority of TWAS/ UNESCO , special consideration will be given to Least Development Countries (LDCs) and women. Scholarships last up t??o 4 years.

2?? Earn a PhD through the TWAS-TüB?TAK programme

Students from developing countries in the South holding a Master of Science degree may apply for a PhD in natural and applied sciences with the TWAS-TüB?TAK Postgraduate Fellowship Programme. Fellowships duration is 6–12 months. Available institutes include public and private universities of Türkiye and TüB?TAK Research Centres and Institutes.

3?? Postdoctoral fellowships available through TWAS-TüB?TAK

PhD holders from developing countries in the South may apply for postdoctoral positions in natural and applied sciences under a Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TüB?TAK)/TWAS joint programme. Fellowships have a 6-to-36-month duration. The research work will be carried out at departments and laboratories of public and private universities of Türkiye and TüB?TAK Research Centres and Institutes.

4?? PhD curricula in natural sciences and engineering with TWAS-LUMS in Pakistan

Through a joint programme, the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), in Pakistan, and TWAS offer postgraduate fellowships to young scientists from developing countries pursuing a PhD in natural sciences and engineering. Fellowships cover a maximum period of 60 months (or five years). Eligible nationalities include all developing countries in the South, with the exception of Pakistan.

5?? TWAS-DBT Postdoctoral Fellowships available

PhD holders from developing countries who aspire to pursue high-level research in biotechnology may apply for a postdoctoral fellowship available with the TWAS-DBT joint programme. DBT is the Department of Biotechnology of the Ministry of Science and Technology, India. Fellowship are tenable at biotechnology research institutions for 12–18 months.

6?? TWAS-DBT Postgraduate Fellowships Programme

Submit your application and carry out ambitious research leading to a PhD in biotechnology, through the TWAS-DBT Postgraduate Fellowship Programme. Fellowships are open to scientists and scholars from developing countries in the South. The PhD duration is up to five years.

7?? TWAS-FAPESP Postdoctoral Fellowships Programme for Least Developed Countries

Through a new collaboration between UNESCO-TWAS and the S?o Paulo Research Foundation ( FAPESP ) 12–24 month postdoctoral fellowships are available to scientists who are permanent resident and native of a Least Developed Country. Fields of?investigation include natural, applied and social sciences.

8?? Nine TWAS Awards available to individual scientists

TWAS bestows prestigious biennial awards to scientist who have been working and living in a developing country for at least 10 years. Prizes have no age limit. They acknowledge outstanding contributions in nine scientific fields, as well as science and technology applications to sustainable development.

9?? TWAS Siwei Cheng Award in Economic Sciences

The TWAS-Siwei Cheng Award gives recognition to economic scientists who have given outstanding contribution to the application of economic sciences to sustainable development.

The award, named after renowned Chinese economist Siwei Cheng, is bestowed on candidates who have been living and working in a developing country for at least 10 years. Nominations from scientifically lagging countries and social scientists women are encouraged. Self-nominations are not accepted.

??Learning new skills in a Science Diplomacy course

TWAS and The American Association for the Advancement of Science are seeking candidates to take part in the 2024 AAAS-TWAS course on science diplomacy. The workshop will take place in person 17–21 June 2024, in Trieste, Italy. Scientists, policymakers, diplomats and other stakeholders will learn key concepts about international policy issues related to science, technology, environment and health. Applications to attend the course are being invited from ‘participant pairs’: both the pair participants should be living and, or working in the same country.
