In this edition:
Dear colleague,
As the managing director of the IoT Security Foundation, I am delighted to welcome you to our first newsletter of 2024.?In today's hyper-connected world, the importance of cybersecurity cannot be overstated. The proliferation of IoT devices has brought about a surge in cyber threats, and the emergence of AI has added a significant layer of complexity to this landscape.
Governments and markets worldwide are seriously concerned about vulnerabilities in our cyber protections as we witness a wave of regulatory developments that are shaping the digital future.
At IoTSF, we firmly believe that good cybersecurity is a team sport and that is the primary reason why the Foundation was formed – to be the home of IoT security. We aspire to achieve this by providing support and guidance to all our stakeholders – especially our members - enabling them to stay ahead of the evolving threat landscape.
We remain committed to fostering collaboration, innovation and knowledge sharing across the industry. I warmly invite you to engage with the numerous activities and initiatives that IoTSF has to offer.
This year marks our 10th annual conference, and we have an exciting program of events, webinars, working groups, workshops, and international chapters for you to engage with. These platforms are designed to facilitate learning, networking, the exchange of best practices and the evolution of standards. I encourage you to join us in this collective effort to strengthen IoT cybersecurity.
By working together, we can make a positive impact and ensure a secure digital future for all.?
John Moor
The first monthly webinar of 2024 takes place on Thursday 25th January 2024 and we're thrilled to have Scott Register -?VP Security Solutions at Keysight Technologies - as our first speaker. Scott will be presenting?'Test or Die – don’t fall victim to IOT security holes' where he’ll discuss the importance of full-spectrum security testing of IOT devices, and the certification schemes governments around the world are promoting to elevate security.
We're also delighted to have?Michael Richardson - Chief Scientist at Sandelman Software Works - joining us. 'Notoriously insecure: The tragedy of the commons in home network security' will be the title of his presentation. This talk will cover the many efforts of the IoTSF ManySecured working group and others to raise the default security at home.
While there are many technical challenges, the primary one is economic: getting people and vendors to care. What webinar topics would you like to see in 2024??We're particularly interested in looking at application security - all sectors with the likely exception of consumer as we've done a lot on that already and want more business/industrial/infrastructure topics.
Perhaps you'd be interested in speaking on a future webinar??

Device Authority scooped the IoT Champion category at December's TechWorks Awards & Gala Dinner.? The spirit of the Champion award is to celebrate organisations which demonstrate a commitment to raising the bar on cybersecurity beyond their own commercial interests.
The 2023 winner has done the long, hard yards over many years. They continue to work with a number of institutional and standards initiatives – including the IoTSF – as well as developing their own award-winning solutions, helping to bring cohesion at an inter-continental level. For a small company, they are making a quiet, yet important and influential impact globally.?
We’d like to recognise those extra efforts and celebrate Device Authority as the worthy winner. Many thanks to the 2023 IoT Champion Award sponsor, Keysight Technology. Commiserations to Codasip and The IASME Consortium.
