Building awareness about the European Union in the Southern Neighborhood & connecting you to the EU-funded projects
The?EU?Neighbours?South?is part of the?EU-funded Regional Communication Programme for the Eastern and Southern Neighbourhoods. The four-year programme (2020-2024) aims to raise awareness, increase knowledge and improve public understanding of the European Union and its policies, enhance strategic communication actions and build resilience against disinformation in the Southern Neighbourhood.
HIGHLIGHTS
2023: A Year of Pushing Limits and Forging Bonds
As the curtain draws on another eventful year, we think back on the past year at EU Neighbours South programme. From regional campaigns to thrilling contests and to nurturing the #InTheirEyes and EU Jeel Connect networks, our commitment to connection has thrived. Youth from our networks participated in activities across the region and Europe, sharing their perspectives, acquiring new skills and making memories.?
In this newsletter, we look back on some activities, and also on the networks that have made this year unique!
As we look forward to the new year, we hope for even more engaging activities and opportunities to connect with the public. May 2024 be a year where hope shines brightly, and peace prevails in every corner of the world!
Our networks at UfM's Youth Academy in Barcelona!
In November, some of our EU Jeel Connectors and EU Goodwill Ambassadors participated in UfM*’s Mediterranean Youth Academy in Spain.
This 3rd edition of the Academy focused on centering Euro-Med youth voices and enhancing their capacities. The 3-day programme featured 6 interactive sessions, providing a platform for 100 participants from the Euro-Med region to engage in meaningful dialogue and collaborative learning.
Our youth immersed themselves in a collaborative experience, returning eager to share their newfound knowledge within their peers from the youth networks and beyond.
#EyesOnEarth: Entrepreneurship in the Service of Ecology
In summer 2023, the EU Neighbours South programme launched #EyesOnEarth, an environment-focused campaign to highlight the importance of environmental preservation and promote sustainable business models in the region.?
As part of this campaign, we highlighted success stories of environmentally conscious initiatives and entrepreneurs within the Southern Neighbourhood.
Explore the narratives of the innovative, youth-driven businesses dedicated to environmental preservation and sustainable development, all of which received support from the EU.
Investing in Culture: A Daring Gamble for Youth
Discover our series of culture related e-cards, published in 2023 as part of the Speak Up Culture! campaign. The e-cards shed light on cultural initiatives, start-ups, and the talented beneficiaries who have received EU funding and support to nurture culture in the Southern Mediterranean.
These stories showcase the success of artists, cultural journalists, social entrepreneurs, and more, all of whom exemplify the potential of youth in creating a vibrant cultural and entrepreneurial landscape. They are living proof of the concrete impact of EU support.

Connect Summit 2023: A Family Gathering
On 14 and 15 December 2023, the Connect Summit brought together both youth networks, EU Jeel Connect and #InTheirEyes in a two-day webinar.
This online gathering drew together over 100 young people from the Southern neighbourhood. Discussions centred around shared experiences and the realities of youth in the region. The event included exchanges with high-level EU representatives as well as in-depth conversations on relevant themes such as women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship, culture?and environment.
The dynamic exchanges not only deepened our sense of community but also forged new bonds, setting the stage for impactful collaboration.
Meet the EU Jeel Connectors!?
EU Jeel Connect is a network dedicated to raising awareness and promoting youth engagement in the Southern Neighborhood, showcasing the impact of the EU. With voluntary membership, the network extends across Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia and currently includes over 200 young people.?
