As we go into the new year, we can't help but reflect on the world around us and the changes we want to see as a society this year. 2022 was a year of a lot of success in the world of female entrepreneurship, but there's still a long way to go to achieve equality and fully realize the potential of women entrepreneurs.??

January was also our first full month of onboarding members to our new platform! We hope to continue seeing the growth of this network and the endless possibilities that this online space can provide its members.?

Women Now Run One In Three High-Growth Companies, Despite A Worldwide Lack Of Access To Capital

Inflation experts expect us to hit all-time highs before the end of the year. But returning to a healthy level of around 2% is going to take some time.?

?According to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor Women’s Entrepreneurship Report, one-third of high-growth businesses worldwide are currently run by women. High-growth businesses in this report are defined as?job-creators with 20+ employees, projecting 20+ new hires in the next five years.

?

The Women’s Entrepreneurship Report also found that one in three innovation-driven entrepreneurs is female. Comparing data across countries, women entrepreneurs in upper-middle-income countries are the most prevalent among innovative, high growth entrepreneurs. This group has also reached parity with men?in international market focus.?Another interesting aspect highlighted by the report is that women are more likely to start businesses with no employees, often seen as a stepping stone for future job creators.?

When looking at the results of the report, it is important to highlight that women are achieving these successes with little to no support. For example, there is a lack of policies supporting childcare and similar services supporting women entrepreneurs. Another challenge to highlight is the lack of funding women face. There are clearly cultural and social biases against women and this directly causes obstacles when searching for financing.??Read more...???

Afghan girls and women made focus of International Education Day: UNESCO

Barring girls and young women from classrooms in Afghanistan could wipe out huge gains made in education and create “a lost generation”, the UN’s educational and cultural organization, UNESCO, has warned.

In light of the recent political situation in Afghanistan and current restrictions being placed on its citizens, the UN announced they were dedicating this year's International Day of Education to the girls and women of Afghanistan.?

“No country in the world should bar women and girls from receiving an education. Education is a universal human right that must be respected... The international community has the responsibility to ensure that the rights of Afghan girls and women are restored without delay. The war against women must stop,” said Director-General Audrey Azoulay.?

?In December 2022, the Taliban authorities in Afghanistan banned young women from universities. This came after the directives prohibiting girls from attending secondary school. The new regulations led to Afghanistan being the only country in the world where women and girls’ access to education has been suspended.?

4 female tech founders in the Netherlands share their tips for success

From integrating emerging technologies such as AI and blockchain to staying laser-focused on the user, these female entrepreneurs offer valuable advice for staying ahead of the curve.

The Dutch tech industry is thriving, making it the perfect time to do business in this field. The current robust digital infrastructure and national entrepreneurship initiatives in the Netherlands have created ideal conditions for innovation.

Although there are very successful female-led companies in the industry, there is still a lot of inequality in the tech world. Only 18% of IT professionals in the Netherlands are female, and only a fraction of that number are working in top management roles. Even within the thriving Dutch entrepreneurship ecosystem, women are struggling to get funding: European startups founded by women won only 1% of funding last year and 5.7% of total funding in the Netherlands in 2019. This is especially true for women in tech, which has been and continues to be a field dominated by men.

Four founders in tech share their tips and advice for professional women following in their footsteps in hopes of fostering female entrepreneurship in the field.?Read more...
