Mortgage Professionals...Welcome to 2023! I'll be brief as I know everyone is busy cranking up the new year.

2022 was one for the record books, just not the records we've been used to the last few years! I can honestly say in my almost three decades in the business, I've never seen such a high and such a low in a two-year period. Many of the loan officers, branch managers, production leaders and even C-Level executives I've spoken with the last few months agree.

For the Operations folks that I spoke with in 2022 it was utterly heartbreaking. My heart still goes out to everyone that was affected with the record layoffs. It wasn't that long ago that our team was placing Underwriters, Processors, Closers, Funders and others at such a rapid clip we could barely keep up. That door slammed closed in 2022 with declining pipelines and rapidly rising rates. It was devastating talking to so many folks this past year that I simply couldn't help as our clients just didn't have the openings. As I've advised many, that this cycle will pass as they always do. It's just going to take a bit longer this time. As companies add more sales folks and volume begins to tick back up I truly believe that most companies will be adding back operations staff again.

On the Sales/Production side, we've seen a marked uptick in hiring plans from Production Execs as they head into 2023. Most agree that Q1 and probably Q2 are still going to be a struggle with tight margins but they are optimistic about the 2nd half of this year and are staffing up at a rapid clip. Our firm has brought on 3 new clients since Thanksgiving and we're exited about helping them with their growth in 2023 and ready to make introductions to our Loan Officers, Branch Managers, Area/Regional and Production Leader candidates that are looking to make a change.
