News and Notices from the Courts
? The U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey seeks qualified applicants for an appointment as U.S. Magistrate Judge.
? The 2025 electronic registration and payment application is now available for New Jersey attorneys. The deadline for registration and payment is Feb. 28.
? The Board on Attorney Certification set application deadlines in the following areas— Civil Trial, Criminal Trial, Matrimonial Law Certification, Workers’ Compensation Law Certification and Municipal Court Law. Certified attorneys whose certification expires 2025 must file an application for recertification by March 28.
? The Judiciary announced NJSBA member Candice L. Drisgula as the new district secretary for the District XI (Passaic County) Fee Arbitration Committee
Supreme and Appellate Decisions
?State v. Shaquan K. Knight (088970) (Essex County and Statewide)—The state Supreme Court affirmed the use of slow-motion video evidence to assist a jury.
?State of New Jersey vs. Yonathan Z. Seligman (Hudson County and Statewide)—The appellate panel denied an appeal to suppress evidence seized during a “knock and announce” warrant.
?Richard T. Berkoski, Etc. vs. Honda Motor Company, Ltd. (Camden County and Statewide)—A case on whether a motor vehicle is defectively designed if it does not include the latest driver-assistance technologies that are not mandated by federal or state law.
?Hoboken for Responsible Cannabis, Inc. vs. City of Hoboken Planning Board (Hudson County and Statewide)—A case regarding an application to operate a cannabis retail business.
?State of New Jersey vs. Jeremy Arrington (Essex County and Statewide)—A case concerning the insanity defense in New Jersey and whether defendants are permitted to testify at trial about their own allegedly insane mental state without accompanying expert testimony.
?Mirza M. Bulur vs. The New Jersey Office of the Attorney General (Cumberland County and Statewide)—The panel held that the Attorney General did not have the authority to supersede the daily operations of the Paterson Police Department.

Experience Devils and Flyers Hockey While Networking with the NJSBA
Get ready for some good old-fashioned North Jersey-South Jersey rivalry.
