Janai Purnima II Rakshya Bandhan II Kwati purnima II Gunhi Punhi II Rishitarpani
This holy festival is celebrated every year on the day of the full moon in the month of august/Shrawan. Janai is sacred thread, and Purnima is full moon day. In Raksha Bandhan day male who have done (bratanbandha) change their janai with full rituals and other people get tied colourful threads (Doro) on the wrist by priest after bathe. They believe doro brings them good luck, when one believes, that always becomes true. That threads is taken off on day of laxmi puja and tied the threads on cow’s tail. Every year, thousands of disciples go from all across the nation to the Rasuwa district's Gosaikunda to take part in a fair. On this day, hundreds of devotees travel to Patan to the Kumbeshwar Temple. Sanatan religious men of the Brahmin and Chhetri groups perform their annual ritual of changing Janai during this festival. The priest ties colorful threads on the wrist of family members and give them blessings.
Terai region of Nepal celebrate the same day as "Rakhi, the tying of a rakhi,or holy thread, by the sister on the wrist of her brother. This day is also called Kwati Punhi, where Kwati is a sprouts of different beans and Punhi means the full moon day. In Newari language, 'Kwa' means hot and 'ti' means soup. In Janai Purnima Newar farmers offer different food items to frogs. Believing that worshiping the frog.
Who is considered an agent of the God of rainfall, by making offerings of different food items help to increase the production of crops. Newly married couple are offer to have meal on relatives home and offer sida (crops, vegetables, fruits, janai, money, kwati and sweet). After this process only they are allowed to put dashain tika by elders.
Gai Jatra, another significant celebration of the Kathmandu valley, occurs the day after Janai Purnima.
