JAMSU: Oui’s Term for April

JAMSU: Oui’s Term for April

Get ready to add jamsu to your beauty vocabulary.

Translation please…

The term jamsu translates to “diving”.

It is the latest Korean beauty trick and it involves dunking your face in a bowl of ice-cold water. The technique claims to avoid a shiny complexion throughout the day and keep your make-up in place for hours.

Another Korean Beauty Trend

Like most beauty trends – think sheet masks, BB creams and cushion foundations – jamsu started in Korea and is the hot make-up technique to try out.

Strange but effective

Yes, I agree with you, I didn’t believe it at first, but it actually works! I know, because I tried it myself.

I was sceptical until I tried it!

I applied my foundation as normal. Then, I added a thick layer of baby powder. Next, I completely submerged my face into a bowl of cold water for 30 seconds. I gently patted my face with a towel and finished my make-up routine as usual; Ten hours later, my face looked the same!

What makes this beauty trick work?

It’s kind of like baking and sandbagging, which are methods to set your make-up with a thick layer of powder. While the newly-mainstream baking technique uses heat to set loose powder, jamsu employs a whole bowl of water to “seal the deal”.

A special tip you need to know

Keep your eye area very still while the powder is setting. Not easy, but it needs to be done because any facial expression will cause the skin to crinkle, which could create cracks and lines in your concealer.

And voilà!

If you’re brave enough to try it, YouTube has many tutorials to guide you. In the meantime, if you see the term, you’ll know what it means, and yes, please leave as is, no need for translation.

I will see you next month with another beauty-full term!
