JAMPRO TRADE MISSIONS: FOSTERING INFORMATION ACCESS AND EXPORT OPPORTUNITIES FOR LOCAL BUSINESSES

The global demand for Jamaican goods and services is on the rise, echoing the call from investors and consumers worldwide.???

To meet these demands effectively, businesses need improved access to investments, resources and information.?

Therefore, with the Government’s thrust to bolster production and ramp up exports, JAMPRO, under the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce (MIIC) continues to provide stakeholders with opportunities to enhance production and explore new markets.?

Shullette Cox, President of JAMPRO, recently discussed the agency’s strategies during an interview on the Ministry’s Export Doctrine radio programme. She underscored that taking companies on Trade Missions to network with stakeholders and gain access to relevant information remains a key strategy of the Agency. ?

“Over the past few months, we’ve gone on several missions led by the Minister, and we’ve brought numerous exporters. In Guyana, we brought about 70 exporters and we’re about to go on another mission to New York and London in a few weeks and we have about 50 people coming with us,” she said.??

These upcoming missions, which remain open to any businessperson ready to export, will kick off in New York on September 24th and conclude in London, England on the 30th. ?

President Cox extended an invitation stating, “That’s an open invitation to any businessperson that’s ready to export, to come with us when we go on our missions so that you can start to understand the export markets that you want to do business with and try to chart a path for your company into those markets,” President Cox said. ?

While on these missions, JAMPRO facilitates crucial business-to-business meetings, tailored to meet the needs of the participating companies. ?

President Cox highlighted that several companies from previous trade missions have successfully secured contracts and expanded their businesses overseas.?

“So, I think that’s the first step, getting the knowledge and exposure and JAMPRO is here to help companies with that,” she declared.??

THE EXPORTER FACILITATION DEPARTMENT??

President Cox said the newly formed Exporter Facilitation Department at JAMPRO was established to proactively engage with exporters in the field, identify their challenges and provide assistance. This includes furnishing them with pertinent information and guidance through the necessary?processes. ?

“They also have a mandate to go back in time to find those exporters who paused their exports, reengage them and see how we can activate them and make them interested and ready to go into market,” she stated. ?

Currently, Jamaica boasts just over 600 active exporters, a number that President Cox and JAMPRO are committed to growing in support of the nation's economic expansion. ?
