3 Ways to Speed up the Hiring Process

Hiring is tough. Getting hired is even tougher. If you're in the interview stage with a company, it can seem like you're spending forever in limbo, waiting for any kind of update or feedback. But did you know you can take steps to speed this up, even as a candidate? Here's how:

1. Make sure your resume is perfect. If there are parts of your resume that are confusing, contradictory, or not aligned with your LinkedIn profile, you can expect to have the process delayed as recruiters and hiring managers try to figure it out. Save yourself from having a back-and-forth about your resume, and ensure it is both up-to-date and matched with your social media.
2. Let them know you are interviewing elsewhere. You should be careful and professional with how you present this, but if you have a final interview pending, or an offer in hand, you can let other companies know that you won't be on the market long. Be sure to emphasize that they are still your number one choice, but remember that FOMO is real and if your candidacy has a deadline, they could be spurred towards a decision.
3. Send your availability ahead of time. If there is any interest in your candidacy at all, you should go ahead and let them know when you're free for an interview. This can save a lot of back-and-forth with scheduling, aligning of recruiter/hiring manager/HR calendars. Calendly is a great tool I see used to achieve this - send them your Calendly link or a quick message with your availability.

Don't forget that the average job search takes between 3-6 months. You won't find the right fit immediately, but you will find it eventually.
