3 tips to make hiring through Indeed easier

If you're a transportation or logistics company looking for good talent, you know that Indeed can be one of the hardest tools to use. You'll get lots of applicants, but a majority of them will be unqualified. How do you use Indeed for Business to make hiring easier? My specialty as a Headhunter for years has been finding the right candidates, and here's 3 lessons I've learned about using Indeed to source.

Step 1: Use the smart sourcing tool.

The "Post and Pray" method alone will not work for getting good talent. Active Job seekers are going to have to wade through a sea of other job postings to find yours, and the strongly qualified ones won't necessarily take the time to complete an application. Especially when they have recruiters reaching out to them regularly. So, try out the smart sourcing tool on Indeed and send them a message yourself. A direct message goes a long way, and the subscription is relatively cheap.

Step 2: Make custom screening questions.

When you do post a job, you can set screening questions on your job post that will quickly eliminate unqualified applicants. Make it a yes or no question, and then select "Dealbreaker." This will help narrow down the talent pool to only the most qualified and interested.

Step 3: Know when NOT to use Indeed.

Having used lots of different sourcing tools, I know where Indeed works best. And that is for the $30/hr to $120k range (roughly). That is Indeed's niche in the talent market. For higher comp positions, switch to LinkedIn Sales Nav or LinkedIn Recruiter, Industry-specific boards, or other professional and specialized sourcing tools. For operator-level or lower positions, consider more affordable platforms - I've even seen companies using the tried and true method of renting billboards on the highway. The reality is that Indeed is NOT the only game in town, and if you diversify your sourcing platforms, you increase your likelihood of finding the right person for the job.
