3 ways to know if your interview went well:

Frequently, candidates will get to the interview stage with excitement. After completing interviews, the waiting game begins - and it can be daunting wondering whether or not you are going to get an offer or a rejection message. But you don't have to be completely in the dark while you wait for news... here's 3 ways to tell if your interview is going well:

  1. How long did the interview last? Generally, its a good sign if the interview is as long or longer than scheduled. If you're being introduced to different members of the team, and shown different parts of the facility, then you can be confident that they are picturing you as an employee. If there is something wrong... be on the lookout for subtle indicators that they want to close out the interview rapidly. The interview will feel very transactional, instead of conversational. They will not ask many follow-up questions, or respond with much enthusiasm, as they have already eliminated you in their head and are looking to move on with their day.
  2. How did they close it out? When companies really want someone, they will hint at it in the way they wrap up the interview. This is the best indicator of how you did. If they brought up next steps - great! When a company talks about following up, its usually a good sign if they tie it to a deadline. "We'll have a decision by Friday," is better than "We'll follow up soon." If they leave you with a "You have other opportunities, right?" as the last question, as once happened to me.... don't expect to hear back from them.
  3. Did you talk numbers? Anything that is logistical in nature regarding your start date, compensation, or selling points of the company is usually a good sign. If you've convinced them you're the right choice in the interview, the second half of it may just be them working out what to put in the offer letter, and selling you on why you should stay engaged with them for the opportunity.

These are guidelines, not hard and fast rules. But in combination they can be powerful indicators that you are on the fast track to getting an offer. Still, I always advise job seekers to continue the job search until they have an offer accepted.

Hopefully you can use these tips to figure out if there is an offer coming your way!
