Jake Knapp ready for a design sprint Webstep winter weekend!

10 years working on Gmail and co-founding Google Meet. Rock star famous for “Sprint - Solve big problems and test new ideas in just five days”. Jake Knapp it is - and here he comes!

Read this book and do what it says if you want to build better products faster”, Ev Williams says, co-founder of Medium og Twitter.

Jake’s design sprint is a tremendous success, and now he is up for an oval Webstep winter weekend, starting out with a saturday and sunday design sprint workshop, ending up in a Webstep hosted design meetup, together with iXDA Trondheim on monday. Both held in the Webstep Trondheim Torg premises, and still up for grabs.

Been here before

As we speak, Jake probably looks into his empty suitcase wondering how to mach the Trondheim weather forecast. He has been here once before, but points to the upcoming trip as a winner in advance.

– In 2008, I got locked in a Trondheim hotel lobby, escaped, slipped on an icy sidewalk and fell on my bottom, then visited the Google office. A few weeks later, the Google office was shut down. So I am confident this will be my most successful visit to Trondheim ever!

Digging into the most challenging steps

The Design Sprint coming up on saturday is a compressed one, without leaving Jake in doubt whether a fast version is going to work out perfectly.

– We won't build and test a prototype, so that saves two days! As for the rest, we'll use a sample problem instead of a real one, which really speeds things up. With those changes, two days gives us plenty of time to practice the most challenging steps of the Design Sprint, with enough time left over for lots of questions.

Easy spot on Trondheim airport?

– In three key words how do you describe yourself as a design sprint inventor and facilitator?

– Tough question. When I describe myself to someone I'm going to meet, I say "tall, beard, glasses" so lets go with that!

An easy spot on Trondheim Airport he is, then. But don’t be afraid, the guest lecturer of Stanford, Columbia and Harvard is going to be time well spent for UX designers, developers an startup’ers.

Fun, fast paced weekend

– Does it exist a first class participators mindset when the show is on, Jake?

– I suggest people sleep well and eat a good breakfast so they are ready for a fun, fast-paced time. But whether someone is skeptical or open-minded really doesn't matter — you encounter all kinds on teams, and the Design Sprint can bring out anyone's best so long as they are at least willing to try it.
