Jaisalmer - Rajasthan
What usually is a 2-day trip for most of the travellers unlike me as I spent a little time extra over 4 days in the small town of #Jaisalmer in Rajasthan .
Since I am writing this after 3 months of the trip, I will only mention things that really got engraved in my mind and will always be a part of my memories.
The journey: - I left for Jaisalmer at around 5 am form Jodhpur by train. The journey was around 200Kms which would take around 5 hours. The journey was amazing as this was the first time, I saw the desert and could see large pile of sand dunes on both sides of the train. As soon as I got down from the train, I could understand why this city is called the city of Gold as every building, house, shop that I could see was made out of yellow stone. Asking the locals, I realized that the sand of the desert under huge pressure over hundreds and thousands of years turns in a yellow stone which is also a reason for its abundance.
The city is very small with only 3 or 4 major #attractions. The major attractions are The Jaisalmer Fort, Gadisar Lake & Patwo, Salam Singh ki #haveli(Residence). The fort is in itself mighty, with more than 2Kms circumference. The fort is one of the rare living fort which means actual people live inside. The fort has a unique structure and pictures that we see online can at max give you a 1% understanding of it actually is. Filled with #restaurants and hotels inside the fort one can stay inside the fort and witness the spectacular things available inside including the Vishnu temple. Some restaurants inside the fort provide breath-taking view of the city both lunch & dinner in these restaurants brings delight.
For a passionate photographer #gadisar lake and patwo ki haveli can be a blessing in disguise. Just by going their you will realize how many TV adds have been shot there. The city also has a unique weather cycle. The mornings are a bit cold, days are incredibly hot and evenings are windy and pleasant. It is believed that the city was once under the sea, you can also find fossil stones sold extensively.
After the city is done you can explore 4 other locations which ranges form 10 to 100Kms.
The Locations I would suggest that is worth visiting are:
领英推荐
1-????Tanot Mata Temple: - Situated on the Indo-Pak border the temple offers very new experiences. The temple has famous stories which are hard to believe. The temple was also featured in the famous bollywood movie Border. It is important that one must go there taking a full day at hand as the journey is to the temple is both exciting and time taking.
2-????Sum Desert: - Situated around 20 Kms form the City we can find the actual Thar dessert.
An evening along with night say can be planned at SUM. The place has arrangements of tents, regional music and dance shows and dining facilities. One can experience the thrill of camel rides and desert sport activities. It is to be noted that the far you go after crossing SUM the cleaner the sand becomes.
3-????Kuldhara:- Situated around 20 Kms form the city the place the worlds most haunted place. It is advised for travellers not to go alone and only visit during day time.
Renting a two-wheeler in summers and exploring the city is a bad idea as the temperature is very high. The correct season in to visit Jaisalmer is from October to February.
