Jaipur LPG Tanker Blast Burnt 14 People Alive, Contouring Under Process Safety.....

  1. Date and Time: 20th December 2024, 5:30 AM

??Jaipur-Ajmer Highway Involved Vehicles: LPG Gas Tanker (traveling from Ajmer to Jaipur) Chemical Container (traveling from Ajmer to Jaipur) ??

??Collision: The chemical container collided with the rear of the LPG tanker at a U-turn. The collision damaged the LPG tankers nozzle.

??Gas Leak and Explosion: LPG gas leaked from the damaged tanker. ; A likely ignition source (due to the collision) caused a massive explosion.

??Impact:

??A 200-500 meter area around the incident was engulfed in flames.

??Approximately 40 vehicles were completely destroyed. Numerous victims suffered severe burns.

??A nearby paper factory was also set ablaze. The blasts impact radius extended to nearly 1 kilometer.

??Debris and charred remains were scattered across a wide area.

??The intense noise and pressure from the explosion resulted in the deaths of birds in nearby trees.

Potential for Further Catastrophe: Another LPG tank was located in close proximity to the incident. A GAIL gas pipeline ran approximately 100 meters away from the collision site..

brain storming this event, various process and road safety aspect came into picture, the threats and hazards which are associate with LPG / chemical tanker.

The LNG-CNG poses significant risks due to potential hazards like explosions, fires, chemical releases, exposure, and electrical incidents, requiries strict safety protocols to ensure facility safety, operational efficiency, and compliance with stringent regulations.

?One should ensure below Precautions and safety protocols are followed stringently.

  1. Hazard identification and mitigation:Regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards like equipment failures, human error, natural disasters, and chemical spills
  2. Few Process safety studies which are very important like QRA-Quantitaive Risk Assessment, vent sizing study,
  3. Implementing robust safety measures like redundant systems, fire suppression systems, explosion-proof equipment, and proper ventilation.Strict procedures for handling hazardous materials, including training for personne
  4. ERDMP-Prepare and drill Emergency response and Disaster management plan regularly, involve societies , stregthen the road safety measure.
  5. Brain centric Training for monotonous jobs like driving could be think off.

Experts are welcome to provide thier insights and precautionary measure to avoid such Catastrophic accidents.
