Founder at Fasal (AgTech), Pioneered Precision Agriculture Technology In India, Engineer, Forbes30U30Asia
Agriculture is the oldest profession on which our civilisation was built. While human race evolved, industrialisation lead the next phase of growth for us. And somewhere down the line, this Nobel profession became the last profession. Sometimes, it is not even considered a profession, a sad reality. While information technology lead the next phase of evolution for almost all other industries, agriculture largely remain untouched until last decade when we realised that Climate and Food security cloud make this planet un-sustainable in near future.?
I grew up at a place called Azamgarh in UP where my family was farming for generations, they still do. And when I was growing up, I was so fascinated about technology and computers that I decided to pursue engineering and become the first engineer in my family. While I was all happy doing great work, building great technology and product, I was never fully satisfied. My roots were farming and it was growing strong on me. I followed my calling and in 2018, we started building Fasal with great people who shared common passion and was ready to push the boundaries of Agriculture Innovation using technology.
We started Fasal in 2018 with a simple idea to change the way Agriculture is practiced in this country, and we took the hard route to understand the very fundamentals and built innovative technologies to solve core problems that plagued this industry for decades. Agtech was born around that time and many great people across the country came together to lead the next phase of Agriculture evolution in this country. The interest in agriculture that was lost earlier is changing now and many young, passionate and talented people from different industries and skillset are challenging the stigma and leading the way. We have realised that problems in Agriculture, Food, Climate are not people or country problem but it is a problem for our planet and we are now determined to tackle that.
We at Fasal are solving it from India. We are also a country that is known for having its roots into Agriculture. We are an agrarian economy and more than 60%?population of our country relies on agriculture as their only source of livelihood. We are Farmers first and anything else later. The sooner we all realise this, the faster we can progress this country further.?
While we started small, with a very humble beginning, our vision has always been to change the face of agriculture using technology and make it predictable, profitable, and sustainable for our better future. We have been pioneers of precision agriculture in this country and that is just the beginning for us. We are determined to make this profession a first choice and push the boundaries of AgTech innovation.?

Today, we can open an app and order groceries in 10 mins but farmers who grow our food, can’t even decide when to irrigate their crops and are often not able to achieve the desired results. Technology has answers to all these questions. AI can process vast historical crop data, soil data, weather data, and food consumption data, and effectively inform farmers which crop to grow this season. IoT can monitor farm, crop, and soil data and alert farmers when to irrigate and fertigate their farm. Farm robots and drones can assist farmers in weeding, spraying, harvesting, and other activities that are highly labor dependent and also very inefficient in its current form.?
Now, considering all that technology working together, a farmer wakes up in the morning and looks at his app that shows him or her what crop to grow this season. At a click of a button farm robots activate and sow the seed in the soil. The farmer receives alerts on his app that a crop needs water and at a click of a button an IoT-connected irrigation pump turns on and irrigates the farm. Farmers receive alerts of spray and at a click of a button, a fleet of drones spray the farm. When the crop is ready, farm robots automatically harvest the produce, sort it and grade it using computer vision, and load it into the truck. And we as consumers always know what food we are eating, what’s its nutritional value, how it has been grown and how it has come to our plate.
That's farming on auto-pilot. And that’s our 2030 vision for the future of AgTech.
