Jaguar Land Rover will close its Solihull plant for two weeks in October amid a slump in sales. Britain’s biggest carmaker reported a 46% fall in sales in China, considered Jaguar Land Rover’s biggest market, contributing to a 12% drop in global sales in September. The 10,000 workers at the Solihull plant will continue to receive pay during their time off. Jaguar Land Rover has already declared plans to shift all production of its Discovery model to Slovakia, and implemented a three-day week until Christmas for part of its Castle Bromwich plant.

UK workers will have to wait until the end of the century to see the average wage double, according to a study. The Resolution Foundation said stagnant wage growth, prompted by weak productivity and precarious employment such as zero-hours contracts, means British workers will have to wait until 2099 before the current average salary has doubled after inflation. According to the thinktank, the average pay packet previously doubled every 29 years. The Office for National Statistics reported average total pay including bonuses hit £491 per week in July.

Two former Tesco senior managers have gone on trial over their alleged role in a £250m accounting scandal. Chris Bush, who was managing director of Tesco UK, and former UK food commercial director John Scouler, are accused of using their managerial authority to “pressurise” junior employees into “pulling forward” profits before they had been earned. In September 2014, Tesco was forced to announce profits had been overstated in a statement the previous month by approximately £250m, sending shares plummeting by nearly 12% and wiping £2bn off the share value.

Heathrow Airport has been fined £120,000 after a member of staff lost a USB stick containing “sensitive personal data”. Found by a member of the public, the memory stick, which was not encrypted or password-protected, contained more than 1,000 files including a training video that exposed the names, dates of birth and passport numbers of 10 people, and the personal data of up to 50 Heathrow aviation security personnel. A probe by the Information Commissioner's Office found only 2% of Heathrow staff had been trained in data protection and the practice of downloading data onto memory sticks was widespread.

Google is pulling the plug on Google+ after a glitch exposed the private profile data of up to 500,000 users. The Wall Street Journal reports Google did not disclose the breach for fear of comparison with Facebook’s leak of data to Cambridge Analytica. Launched in 2011, the tech company will “sunset” Google+ due to “very low usage”. Meanwhile the High Court has blocked a bid to sue Google over claims it harvested personal data from more than four million Brits without their permission.

Idea of the Day: You don’t have to wait until you become a “perfect” version of yourself to do great things, says Stella & Dot Family Brands founder and CEO Jessica DiLullo Herrin.

“You may never believe you are great. A great mother, a great partner, a great entrepreneur, a great leader... And that's ok. Lead anyway and just keep trying to be better, without letting natural self doubts limit you.”

I own a Jaguar XE it’s all aluminum including the chassis 75 miles to the gallon apparently no road tax because he emission are just 99. It’s list price when introduced was £32,000 approximately including electronic seat adjustments and metallic paint. Three years on the same car is over £40,000 electric seat adjustment £800 + extra?. That’s why the plant is suffering. The F Pace was a similar price and is also entry level over £40,000 l was looking to swap recently and am thinking again. With the government taking a dim view of diesel cars despite the vast sums invested on reducing emissions and increased miles per gallon so Jaguar are sunk. The XE is a very good car with excellent handling and driving comfort but no good as a family car because the leg room in the back is really poor plus the boot is too small. The point is Jaguar’s prices are too high and the government have made life more difficult with diesel engines being outcast so the plant closes for two weeks perhaps that will be repeated.l support British Industry but it needs to be competitive and supported by the government.

Jaguar Land Rover should be putting all their effort into making decent cars instead of the their rubbish Range Rover evoqes that brake down every five minutes. No wonder sales are down. I personally have just given up on mine as to many electrical and gearbox faults and only 18 month old?
