Jagger Library Salvaging Project (UCT)

The destruction of the Jagger Library Reading Room and its holdings by the Table Mountain fire on 18 April 2021 was an unprecedented disaster whose impact was felt worldwide. During this time of our need, you as a member of the UCT and/or Cape Town communities responded unhesitatingly to our calls for assistance for the Jagger Library Salvage Project.????????

The grit and determination of more than 2000 volunteers, who gave of their time and energy to assist experts, made it possible for the safe extraction of our heritage collections of books and archives affected by water damage within record time.

Without your help, we would not have been able to complete the emergency salvage phase of our surviving materials. On behalf of UCT Libraries, I wish to acknowledge you and your invaluable contribution towards the success of the Jagger Library Salvage Project, an extraordinary feat under challenging circumstances.
