“I wonder what he is thinking.” “What would it be like to be inside his mind?” We have often asked ourselves what is Jacob thinking? We know that it is an incredible world inside his thoughts and very creative. In his thoughts, he travels through emotions both high and low. He loves the Disney movie Inside Out. His favorite emotions to draw or quote are Joy, Sadness, and Disgust. He does not do much role playing with Anger or Fear. Why?
Growing up, we would play the opposite game to help teach pairs of words with different meanings. “The opposite of up is?” He would say, “Down.” “The opposite of fast is?” “Slow”. When he is upset, or things are not going the way he wants, he will revert to the opposite game. When driving down Interstate 81, we often experience traffic jams. He would shout, “Go fast Dad!” and then follow it with the opposite game. “The opposite of slow is?” He doesn’t want us to answer. He wants action.
Jacob uses his mind for his version of pranks. Chuckling he asked me, “The opposite of camp is?” I don’t know. I responded, “Hotel?” He giggled. “The opposite of fish is?” I think that one is easier, “bird.” He laughs and jumps up and down singing, “Hootie and the Blow-bird. John Cougar Mellon-hotel.”
Jacob has his own sign language he uses to tell himself stories. In the video, you will see that each hand gesture is significant. He does not like me to ask what it means. It is his own code, his own language.
I wonder what he is thinking.
