Jackie Robinson Day: A Legacy of Fortitude

On this April 15th, Jackie Robinson Day, I reflect on the enormous game changing legacy he possesses as a “barrier breaker” in American culture by way of the game of baseball. Of the many great things that Jackie Robinson accomplished during his treacherous and triumphant journey, I am enthralled by the grit and determination he displayed with his legendary abilities playing one of the hardest games to master under vast pressure from both opposition of him being there and an entire culture depending on his success.?

The impact of his willingness to endure such pressure, with focus, during his professional career and his continued efforts for social change post his professional baseball career was fueled in Mr. Robinson understanding his purpose and the impact of proper representation. I believe Mr. Robinson’s fortitude and efforts were a representation of future possibilities and hope. A future where every talented individual, without regard to ethnicity, is afforded the same opportunities to display such talents on the same stages and spotlights of those equally talented.?

I am inspired and encouraged by Mr. Robinson’s legacy. I am encouraged to keep seeking to execute effectively and competently in all areas of my life with the grace needed to inspire the next generation to pursue similar or greater endeavors. I understand the impact and importance of alignment, purpose, and representation and acknowledge that I am a representation of the possibilities possessed by all I share similarities with. I am also mindful that I am the manifested representation sought by trail blazers before me. Therefore, I seek a life of purpose and passion which I hope inspires and opens doors for the next generation.

I believe Jackie Robinson understood his purpose the moment he walked onto that MLB field on April 15, 1947. And though times have changed following his example, there is yet a more promising future ahead following OUR example. A future in which the next generation needs this generation to proudly REPRESENT right now; so that they are inspired to align with what it takes to proudly REPRESENT a future life of purpose running over with success. Whether it be in entrepreneurship, corporate, sports, or any other career path, there is a much more promising future which was initiated by the steps taken by Jackie Robinson in his day.?
