Jack Dorsey had a nose ring in 2018, decides to fund Nostr for 2023
Merry Christmas+1. I like ads. I like it that when I google “how to properly cook a steak for Xmas,” the ribeye follows me around, watching my every move. Just like an innocent pet. On YouTube. On Instagram. And best of all, Facebook (or Meta, whatever). What do you call this. Sounds sweet, like cookies .
I love it that so-called “socmed” platforms can ban anyone for disagreeing with the bright Mr. Sean Penn or the noble Dr. Peter Hotez. After all, we need a referee. To tell us what to believe, to think. Our brains have other things to do. What do you call this. Sounds sh . . . no, sheep .
That said, I want to tell you about Nostr, an abomination for daring to change that status quo, the way things are now with how we consume social media — and vice versa.
Nostr stands for ‘Notes and Other Stuff Transmitted by Relays’
Because sadly, Nostr has been all the rage lately. The smartest 10,000 people on the internet seem to be all flocking there. While I’m stuck, happily content, on Instagram, TikTok, mostly both, which are run by my generous and altruistic overlords Mark Zuckerberg and ByteDance.
So what is Nostr? How can you get “there”?
You can’t get “there.” But you can use Nostr to get “somewhere.” Gets?
Because Nostr is a protocol, not an app
A protocol is a set of rules and standards that govern how devices communicate with each other over a network. Protocols define the format of the data that is exchanged, as well as the rules for transmitting and receiving that data.
An application, on the other hand, is a software program that is designed to perform a specific task or set of tasks. Applications are built on top of one or more protocols, which they use to communicate with other devices or servers.

Example of protocol vs. app
For example, the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is a protocol that is used to transmit data over the web. HTTP defines the format of the data that is transmitted and the rules for sending and receiving that data. A web browser is an application that is built on top of HTTP and other protocols, such as the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol, which is used to secure the transmission of data. The web browser uses these protocols to communicate with web servers and retrieve the web pages and other content that the user has requested.
In summary, a protocol is a set of rules for communication, while an application is a software program that performs specific tasks and uses protocols to communicate with other devices or servers.
Bring me to “somewhere” then!
Go to Damus , “the social network you control.” “Your very own Twitter for your friends or business.” You will find what you’re looking for.
You can find Jack Dorsey there.
To conclude: Nostr + Damus = ?!
Wait, if Nostr is the protocol and Damus is an app built on it, what has Nostradamus got to do with this?
Ask William Casarin , the freedom lover do-gooder working on censorship-resistant money who now wants to give you a censorship-resistant global “social” network.
To conclude, Nostr is the simplest open protocol that is able to create a censorship-resistant global “social” network once and for all.
P.S.
Thank you for the A.I. “who” wrote this article. “He” or “she” is to blame for all the ironies.

11 个月Hi Lyman I recommend investigating what PrivateNess Network has to offer. See my LinkedIn profile About section and posts for more info. I think a PrivateNess Network and Nostr partnership would make something super. What do you think?
