J Haye's Weekly Digest, March 10th 2025

Hello,

?Happy Monday! I hope you had a wonderful weekend.

In last week’s newsletter, we explored? The Human Factor?in risk management—how unlocking human potential through psychological safety can transform risk management from a reactive process to a dynamic, proactive force. This week, we’re taking that discussion further by focusing on how?Cultural Intelligence (or Cultural Quotient or CQ)?intersects with risk management in today’s interconnected world.

"What vulnerabilities is your organisation exposed to by ignoring cultural intelligence in risk management—hidden risks or missed opportunities?" – Julien Haye

In our latest article,?"Cultural Intelligence in Risk Management,"?we examine how integrating?Cultural Intelligence into your risk management strategy enables leaders to address the challenges of managing risk across multiple cultures, perspectives, and teams. Just as psychological safety empowers individuals to raise concerns,?cultural intelligence?ensures that those diverse perspectives are recognised, valued, and effectively integrated into decision-making.

READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE: ?? https://www.aevitium.com/post/cultural-intelligence-in-risk-management

Key takeaways from the article include:

??? The importance of?Cultural Intelligence (CQ)?in managing risks across diverse cultures and teams

?? How?CQ?and?psychological safety?together foster a culture of open dialogue and proactive risk management

?? The connection between?cultural intelligence?and innovation, helping leaders turn risks into growth opportunities

?? Practical steps for integrating?Cultural Intelligence?into your risk frameworks to navigate the globalised business environment

I invite you to read the full article and explore how?Cultural Intelligence?can enhance your risk management approach by enabling more effective, inclusive, and adaptive decision-making.

These themes are also explored in depth in my upcoming book,?Risk Within, where I share how?psychological safety?and?cultural intelligence?can transform decision-making and resilience within organisations.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on how?Cultural Intelligence?can elevate your risk management practices!

Have a wonderful week ahead!

Best, Julien

Governance Gaps: Unlocking New Possibilities

?Great governance fuels clarity, trust, and agile decision-making. When designed effectively, it becomes a strategic advantage, enabling organisations to navigate uncertainty with confidence.?As governance frameworks evolve, leaders are increasingly focused on managing emerging risks that could reshape the way they operate.

Our latest poll highlights the key risks demanding attention:

???48% of respondents?identified?cybersecurity threats?as the most challenging risk to manage, reinforcing the need for stronger oversight and resilience.

???23%?pointed to?geopolitical instability, reflecting its growing impact on strategic planning and governance adaptability.?

???21%?cited?rapid technological changes, signalling the challenge of maintaining governance structures that keep pace with innovation.

???7%?highlighted?ESG challenges, emphasising the need for governance frameworks that integrate sustainability without adding complexity.

What This Tells Us?

Cyber risks are immediate, ever-evolving, and can cause instant disruption. Unlike geopolitical or ESG risks, cyber threats require?constant vigilance, immediate response capabilities, and board-level oversight. Yet many organisations still struggle with fragmented security governance.

The prioritisation of?cybersecurity over ESG, geopolitical, and technological risks?suggests that leaders are focusing first on the risks that have?immediate, measurable, and high-impact consequences.?Cyber threats demand an active defence, while other governance challenges often unfold over time.

?But is this the right balance??Organisations that focus too narrowly on immediate risks may leave themselves vulnerable to longer-term structural weaknesses. Governance must be?adaptive, integrated, and forward-looking to ensure that today’s crisis doesn’t distract from tomorrow’s transformation.

?? How is your governance strategy evolving? Let’s connect— book a meeting here.

?? Ongoing Poll: The Hidden Barriers to Governance Improvement

Governance transformation isn’t just about frameworks—it’s about culture. Our ongoing survey reveals that?63% of respondents?struggle with?weak leadership support, making it the biggest barrier to governance improvement.

What’s the biggest cultural challenge in your organisation??Join the conversation and share your insights in the latest poll!
