Revolutionary Design for Quantum Gates in Trapped Ions Quantum Computers

Researchers Arghavan Safavi-Naini and Matteo Mazzanti have patented a groundbreaking design for quantum gates in trapped ions, resulting in cheaper and simpler quantum computers. A PoC grant from IXA-UvA will enable Safavi-Naini and Mazzanti to build a prototype and demonstrate the operation of the two-qubit gate. Read more

Since this year, SustainaLab, located at Amsterdam Science Park, offers the opportunity for companies and researchers to connect and collaborate on sustainability challenges. Study shows ‘ikHerstel app’ ensures faster recovery after major abdominal operations?

By using the ‘ikHerstel app’, patients recover considerably faster from major abdominal operations than patients who don’t use the app. Patients are being discharged from the hospital often after just one day. With the app, the time of recovery will only take 7 weeks instead of 9.The study was one by Amsterdam UMC among 355 patients from eleven Dutch hospitals. Full article in Dutch

Positive Developments at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Universiteit van Amsterdam with grants from National Growth Fund ???

Exciting developments in Dutch academia! Researchers from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) have received positive evaluations for seven project proposals, securing a share of €1.441 billion allocated by the National Growth Fund. Meanwhile, Universiteit van Amsterdam (UvA) is part of a research consortium, with €200 million from the National Growth Fund dedicated to studying the complete Dutch food system. NWO Take-off approvals for VU, UvA and UMC

As a result of the spring 2023 round of the NWO Take-off Grant, no less than seven Amsterdam projects, developed at Vrije Universiteit, Universiteit van Amsterdam and Amsterdam UMC, have been awarded a Take-off grant. Academic and innovative starters can investigate whether their science-based innovative ideas are feasible and commercially applicable. Read more
