IWD2024: A call to action fueled by love
On this International Women's Day, I find myself echoing the powerful words of Angela Bassett in her unforgettable Honorary Oscar acceptance speech. Each syllable resonated deeply, a resounding call to action that I, and countless others, wholeheartedly embrace.
Black women, in particular, carry the weight of a legacy built on unwavering love for a better world. We can't afford to let anger extinguish our resolve – nor do we wish to. But know this: in the quiet corners of SMEs, virtual offices, and remote workspaces, a force is rising. We are the women who relentlessly inject passion into the work that keeps us moving forward.
As Coretta Scott King eloquently stated,
"The woman power of this nation can be the power which makes us whole and heals the rotten community, now so shattered by war and poverty and racism. I have great faith in the power of women who will dedicate themselves whole-heartedly to the task of remaking our society." This resonates deeply with our mission at FP Comms – Marketing With Love is not just a tagline, it's a rallying cry. Yet, it often falls on ears that seem deaf, or as my grandmother would say, "hard of hearing."
But Angela Bassett reminds us,
"We all just want the opportunity to do great meaningful work."
So, to the unheard women out there: hold fast to your mission. Find the tools you need to keep shining your light. The world desperately needs it.
In her speech, Angela Bassett shared one of my favourite quotes by the late Dr Maya Angelou
'I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.'

Finally, I'm energized to step into my new role as Director of Communications for the The UK Black Business Entrepreneurs Conference Leveraging over two decades of experience and the collective expertise of the FP Comms team, I'm passionate about elevating the stories and herstories of those entrepreneurs determined to make a positive impact on the global landscape. This conference offers a critical platform to amplify these voices, and I'm humbled by the opportunity to contribute to this journey.
