International Women's Day 2021

The mission is to connect and inspire to accelerate full inclusion by supporting, engaging, and retaining women in all areas and levels of RBC. I wanted to start this blog with a few great take-aways I got from Martin Thibodeau and Dave Maurer about inclusion with women in business. (A video from Mary Chalmers-Peristeris showcasing, Shannon Macdougall, Martin Thibodeau, Mandy Osborne, Dave Maurer and Courtney Hesse)
"..solution is not to women alone, the solution is not men alone, the solution is to bring men and women together." -Martin
"..bigger piece is awareness...to have the lenses to think of things and to put gender equality and how you can be an advocate and stick up for people who need it.." -Dave

March 8th, 2021 kick starts a weeklong celebration to recognize International Women's Day.
- IWD is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who play extraordinary roles in their countries and communities.
- It’s also an opportunity to consider how to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls, and to ensure inclusive and quality education for all and to promote lifelong learning.
- Leaders and allies, women, men and all those across the gender spectrum, are seizing the moment and stepping forward as agents of positive change in creating cultures rooted in respect and inclusion.
- It's becoming increasingly important for businesses to lead the conversation and take a stand on issues that are creating divisiveness instead of unity across
Throughout the week there are several Women of Influence who will be speaking through various webcasts to discussing topics such as quieting our inner critic, inclusion, women in workplace etc. To name a few panelist that will be on the webcasts include:
- Lindsay Artkin, President of NHL Coaches’ Association
- Dr. Mina Hoorfar, Director, School of Engineering, University of British Columbia (Okanagan)
- Nalaine Morin, Mining consultant with the Tahltan Nation
- Kendra Woodland, Team Canada, Student Athlete
- Cassidy DeVeer, Owner 3rd Generation Homes
...and that just to name 5 speakers among many more. SheEO, a global community of radically generous women building a $1B perpetual fund to support women working on the World’s To-Do List, will also be doing their annual Summit next week!
I'm honoured to be a part of a Company that addresses the importance of equality. Women equality and empowerment is something important to me and I'm incredibly grateful for opportunities to celebrate this with RBC.
