Every year, International Women’s Day (IWD) reminds us of the progress we’ve made towards gender equality and the journey ahead. This year’s theme, #AccelerateAction calls for real change—not just in policies and laws, but in how workplaces, communities, and leaders operate every day around the globe.

While many organisations celebrate IWD with social media posts and panel discussions, the real impact happens behind the scenes, all year long. At Spurt!, we believe in commitment that goes beyond mere gestures. Our focus is on enabling women through how we hire, mentor, and uplift them in our workplace and beyond.

The Reality of Women in the Workforce

Even though we’ve made strides, the statistics on gender inequality in the workplace are still concerning:

• Women earn, on average, 16% less than men for similar roles.
• Only 6% of executive roles worldwide are held by women.
• 58% of women experience career breaks due to caregiving, which can hurt their long-term earnings.

Beyond these numbers, many women face hidden challenges, from being overlooked in meetings to missing out on leadership roles due to biases that aren’t always obvious. It’s not just about hiring more women but about creating a supportive environment where they can thrive, lead, and succeed.

"I joined Spurt! a year ago, through the S.T.E.P. Training Programme. I was placed in the operations unit, and my career really took off from there. I learned about team performance strategies, recruitment techniques, client relationships, and project management. After five months, while my superiors were away, I took charge of some projects and really made my mark. I led employee culture initiatives and managed recruitment myself.
