I've updated my resume on different portals but I'm not getting any calls. Does that sound someone like you?
No story. Let's start with practical things -
- Firstly decide in which industry you want to work.
Don't just jump to any XYZ company/industry because you'll start losing interest and again hoping to different jobs will not be a good thing.
2. Make a kick-ass resume.
Please note that the resume should not be more than 1-2 pages. I've seen people with 15+ years of having one awesome page resume.
My fav website to make a resume is - https://www.canva.com/en_in/
3. Update your profile on different job portals
Now, this is very important. When I say to update your profile. I don't mean just your resume.
- Fill every column
- Use keywords related to the job which you are hunting on the header of your profile on job portals.
For example, if I'm in sales then I'll write - B2B sales, communication skills, SaaS sales, Account Management, Prospecting
- Use a professional headshot ( Dear Gamer, I'm talking about profile picture) on your profile.
- On some job portals there are is an option of audio/ video resume. This is your chance to stand apart from the crowd.
If you're doing this first time then I suggest, write a script on paper. Rehearse and upload it.
My fav job portals are Naukri, Glassdoor, Indeed, Linkedin, IIM Jobs, google jobs.
4. Still, if you are not getting any calls then comes the underdog or should I say champion with the highest response rate.
It's none other than Cold emails
These are done on daily basis by sales and marketing professionals to reach out to the customer but it could work like a gem during job hunting.
The first thing is you have to do extensive research -
A. Which companies are hiring for profiles like yours. If you have followed step 3 then you might get a fair idea about this.
B. Now try to find a HR ( Every HR is not a recruiter) from that company on Linkedin.
Why?
Because they are the ones who'll be screening your profile before sending it to further round.
You could also reach out to other stakeholders ( Someone who could be your future manager)
Most people do share their email id while posting a job.
Just to be clear I'm talking about the posts which people write on Linkedin, not the Jobs tab.
If you're writing like this...
Hi, XYZ
I'm interested in the ABC position please find the attached resume.
Thanks
Duuhhhh… It's the biggest mistake
Try to give your introduction by mail and tell them why should they hire you and how relevant is your profile with JD.
Keep it short and simple. On the safer side, I'll suggest between 4-10 lines.

5. Don’t send too many messages/follow-up emails.
What I’m trying to say is don’t be a stalker. If there’s a fit. You’ll surely get the call
In most companies, you can’t re-apply for the jobs for the next six months. Keep that in mind.
Only apply for the jobs in which you are genuinely interested and which are relevant to your profile.
Otherwise, you’ll be just wasting the time of HR’s which is not a good thing.
I'm not a an elite professional or an HR but these things had worked for me and they might work for you too.
Need more clarity? You can DM me. More suggestions are welcome :)
