I’ve tasted the future and I can't get enough

I firmly believe the future of computing has arrived, and I am blessed to have played a small part in it. It's not often in a career that you get to be a part something that will truly revolutionize the way we build systems but I firmly believe my time at n.io was spent doing just that.

When I first met the team at n.io and reviewed their platform I knew instantly that I was seeing something special. Before terms like "Fog" and "Edge" were being thrown around to spice up every other IoT article, the n.io team recognized that computing had to evolve. 

They envision a world where computing is device and protocol agnostic so things can communicate with other things freely, where database dependencies don't exist so only data that matters traverses the network and is stored, where logic is distributed to the best place in the architecture allowing realtime fully contextual processing to happen without worrying about how robust the network is. This is now known as the n.io platform. 

I believe that the next technology moat will be unencumbered interconnectivity and control. The ability to connect anything to anything allowing everything to interact regardless of protocol or connection method. These real time smart systems will be distributed allowing logic to be processed where makes the most sense. This will break the chains of the legacy systems that most companies deal with. It will allow architects to design the system that meets their need versus designing what the existing technology will allow. 

I feel honored that Doug and the team allowed me to play a small role in their product's future, and now its time for me to move on. I’ll always fondly remember the work we did together. Connecting legacy scada systems to an old Oracle ERP and sprinkling in some cool new sensors and actuators to create fully digitized factories. Taking sensors and light weight computers into a farm in the middle of nowhere to create a fully autonomous vineyard where the plants can ask to be watered even when internet connectivity is lost. Integrating facial recognition, actuation, and mobile into a distributed smart system in break neck speed proving how rapidly things could be pulled together into a digital experience and the list goes on...

I’m leaving n.io with a lot of great lessons. This small team of entrepreneurs taught me how fast an organization can truly move, they helped me break the chains of my old thinking and realize that computing could and should be unencumbered, and they taught me how much can be done when you have a small group of smart people focused on something they are extremely passionate about. I now feel equipped to transform any enterprise to its fullest potential. 

Clearly I am leaving a piece of my heart in Broomfield Colorado. For you futurists out there, make sure you keep an eye on n.io. They are a small team of wicked smart folks that are changing the world, and I have full confidence everyone will know of them and what they have created very soon. 

Of course, I am extremely excited about my new opportunity which will start shortly. It has yet to be announced so enough about that for now…
