I've spent years thinking about this

I've spent years thinking about this

When my sisters and I were kids and teenagers, we could buy pretty much anything we wanted.

But not in the way you think.

I wasn't a spoiled child.?

Even if we had the possibility to purchase pretty much anything we wanted.

Whatever it was (if age-appropriate, of course).

All we had to do was to work for it.?

Because every time we wanted to buy some toy, clothes, or whatever else.?

?My dad would always respond something along the lines of:?

"You want this? No problem: there's plenty of work at the company."

(He was an industrial-tech entrepreneur and grew his own company for 20+ years)?

And so basically what that meant is that I could go there every Saturday until I had earned enough to buy that one thing.?

And believe me, the work was far from glamorous.

... It meant falling out of bed at 6am on the weekend.

... It meant weeks of dirty fingers and broken nails.

... It also meant muscle pain from doing the same repetitive movement a zillion times.

But here is the most important part.

I felt in control.

I felt in control because I knew that if I really wanted something, I could make it happen.

... I didn't have to try to convince my parents to give it to me.

... I didn't have to hope to receive it as a Christmas present.

... I didn't have to rely on anyone else but my own discipline.

All I had to do was simply work my way into getting that thing.?

And it's the same when you know how to invest and do it consistently.

I've literally spent years thinking about this.

Because when you know how to invest the best way possible…?

… you don't have to rely on your job or employer for a promotion.

… you don't have to rely on your partner for financial security.

(because usually, that strategy backfires…)

… and you don't have to rely on a pension system that's rapidly deteriorating because of population aging.?

Instead, when you know how the investing world works…

… when you know exactly what's in your portfolio and why…?

… when you know how much you need to invest to be able to retire early or switch careers…

Then you feel in total control of your finances AND of your entire life.

That's definitely the way I feel.

And I know you can get there too. ??

Aysha van de Paer thanks for sharing and the reminder. It is not always so straightforward to implement and practice but once you do, the rewards can be very satisfying and reassuring.
